Enjoy a Local Art Tour

Looking for a fun and inexpensive day out that's close to home? Check your local colleges, libraries, and art schools for art exhibitions and shows and plan an "art tour" for an afternoon. I've found numerous such places within 30 minutes of my home in northern NJ, and have enjoyed a truly inspiring array of art from emerging and established artists and students.

Here's one I recommend if you live in northern NJ:

Hiram Blauvelt Museum, Oradell, NJ: Have you ever driven past an old mansion along Kinderkamack Road in Oradell and wondered who lived there? This iconic site in Bergen County is a high-end gallery that exclusively displays wildlife art. Even if you’re not ready to drop 12 grand on a painting, the gallery staff is welcoming and gracious to visitors who are just browsing. (Image, above left.)
Art School at Old Church, Demarest, NJ: I have many fond memories of this converted church in Demarest. I've taken a variety of courses, workshops, taught a children’s class, and sold my jewelry designs there too. It features a changing selection of art shows, workshops, and classes. (Photo, above right.)
Rockland Center for the Arts (ROCA), West Nyack, NY: Just over the border in NY, this school features contemporary art and is considered the crown jewel of Rockland County, NY. Its beautiful, park-like setting features several indoor art galleries, as well as the wonderful Catherine Conner Sculpture Park, situated on several acres outdoors.
My Digital Art is Part of an International Exhibition

I’m excited to announce that my digital art has been selected for an online art exhibition, by Digital Arts: California. The juried show, called  “True Colors 2,” features four of my images, including “Francois,” a digital collage, and three digital paintings: “Go Fly a Kite,” “America,” and “Open Heart.”

Three distinguished
judges, Virginia Christensen, Glen Christensen, and Gary Viskupic chose the finalists. Collectively, they have extensive backgrounds in art, editorial illustration, and graphic design, including designing album covers (remember those?) for major record labels. Although I did not win one of the Stellar Awards given, I am nevertheless proud to have my work displayed among the creations of such talented digital artists.

“The many stunning images in this show come from around the world, representing 83 accomplished digital artists and photographers from 20 countries,” said Virginia Christensen, Director, Digital Arts: California in a mission statement.

"Francois" and "America" are shown, left. I invite you to see
"Go Fly a Kite" and "Open Heart," an
d to view the wonderful work of the other artists.
Exhibit at B9 Architects in Seattle &
First Thursday Art Walk, October 3rd

Some of you know that I consider Seattle my second home. My husband and I lived there for four years, and my art and jewelry designs were sold in many of the city's galleries and shops. Now, my work is returning to the area. My friends in Seattle can view six acrylic paintings and four digital canvas prints on Thursday, October 3rd during the Seattle Art Walk at B9 Architects. If you can't make it, please stop by B9 throughout the month of October, during regular business hours. I’ll share more in the next issue.
