Invites applications for the position of SUPERINTENDENT

The South Umpqua School District Board of Directors is seeking a highly qualified candidate with visionary leadership skills and positive experience in education administration to serve as Superintendent beginning July 1, 2023. The successful candidate must have experience as an administrator, excellent communication skills, unquestionable integrity and be willing to be involved in the community. 
Location: Myrtle Creek, Oregon | Enrollment: 1,485 students
Salary: $135,000 to $160,000 annually, plus benefits

The Position
The successful candidate must hold or qualify for an Oregon superintendent's license and provide proof of compliance with OAR 333-019-1030 (COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements for Teachers and School Staff).

The successful candidate will also have the following personal and professional qualities:
  • High degree of integrity/honesty; strong core values including high expectations for student learning.
  • Has the ability to define, communicate and implement a vision for raising student achievement for ALL children.
  • Is personable/approachable while keeping an open mind; ability to see issues from multiple perspectives.
  • Background in teaching and administration with a track record of increasing student success preferably in small rural areas similar to the South Umpqua communities.
  • Effective communication and listening skills.
  • Highly visible in our community and schools; willing to become a permanent part of our school and community.
  • Willing to make tough decisions and be transparent throughout the entire process.
  • Puts KIDS first; committed to serving all kids K-12.
  • Works well with others; strong collaborator that empowers and values all students, staff, parents and community members.
  • Has a history of building strong community partnerships that positively impact student success.
The District
The South Umpqua School District has a mission to unlock the potential in every student and serves approximately 1,485 students in two elementary, one K-8, one middle and one high school. The District employs a staff of 93 licensed employees, 105 classified employees, 4 confidential employees, and 9 administrators. The District has a general fund budget of about $21.5 million.

The Community
Myrtle Creek is nestled among rolling hills and farm fields in Southern Oregon along Interstate 5, about halfway between the cities of Eugene and Medford, Oregon. It is named after the creek that flows through the valley and the lush myrtle trees flourishing in the area. Located in Douglas County at the foothills of the Umpqua National Forest, the region attracts mountain bikers and trail joggers and fishing enthusiasts.
