"Summertime is always the best of what might be" - Charles Bowden

With August just around the corner, everyone at Dixon Hall is trying to make the most of summer before it's over. From Friday afternoon barbecues to summer camps, from special activities for our seniors to community events, we are doing all we can to soak up every last minute of this beautiful summer. Arriving at 58 Sumach each morning to the sound of children laughing, enjoying time with friends, and getting ready to head out on another adventure is something I will remember long after the summer is over.

I hope you've been enjoying these monthly email updates and hearing about some of the things that are happening at Dixon Hall. We want to keep you informed about the programs you're supporting by donating and volunteering, and the successes you've made possible. I'm excited to be working with you to deliver on the promise of Dixon Hall - to create opportunities for people of all ages to dream, to achieve and to live full and rewarding lives.

In Partnership,

Neil Hetherington
CEO, Dixon Hall

Summer Camps
School's Out and Adventure Awaits!

Camp is officially in full swing and every day brings a new adventure for our campers. Each week, over 75 children attend our summer camps and are welcomed into a fun, safe and supportive environment where they build confidence, camaraderie and community. So far, the kids have been busy baking delicious banana chocolate muffins, swimming, planting a garden, learning about nutrition, and visiting Planet Play and the Ontario Science Centre. This week, we're celebrating Caribana with arts and crafts, dancing and a BBQ.

Our Camp Counsellors are ready for the start of another great Summer Slam - Dixon Hall's summer camp for youth ages 13 - 16. This year, our Summer Slam campers will get to ride bikes at Centre Island, go-kart at the Docks, hike and explore caves at Kelso Conservation area, chase thrills at Canada's Wonderland and finish off the summer with a camping trip in Algonquin Park. They'll also participate in workshops exploring relationships, violence, sexuality and substance use.

It's going to be a summer to remember!

Music Camp: Turn That Volume Up!

Our Music School students spent time at Hart House Farm again this year for two weeks of musical discovery.

During week one, campers learned about the new moon and the Ojibway moon calendar. They took on characteristics of the moon and incorporated them into a play. During week two, the campers formed rock bands, and composed their own songs for an end-of-week performance.

All in all, it was another incredible music camp filled with creativity, inspiration and achievement for everyone who participated.

Food Tastes Better When You Eat With Your Family

Every Tuesday night, as part of our Housing Services meal program, our members come together for a home-cooked meal; and every Friday morning, they join us for a breakfast prepared by peers and volunteers.

Thank you to the team from RBC who volunteered at our Tuesday evening dinner as part of their RBC Day of Service. In addition to volunteering, they also made a generous donation that will will help us buy food for Friday's breakfast program. Thank you RBC!
Join us on Friday at our Summer Series BBQ!
