Ban on e-cigarettes sale to under 18s comes into force

Restrictions on e-cigarettes including a ban on sales to under-18s have come into effect. The rules make it illegal for under-18s to buy tobacco and nicotine vapour products, known as NVPs or e-cigarettes. Anyone buying the products for under-18s will also be breaking the law, with shops selling them required to have an age verification policy and to be registered.

A new California cigarette tax is taking effect today, and it is no April Fool’s joke. An additional $2.00 per pack will now be charged on each pack of cigarettes. M'sian smokers turning to contraband cigarettes following price rise

Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said today that the illicit cigarette trade is on the rise following the government’s raising of cigarette prices through higher excise duties. The findings are based on data from 2,483 youth ages 12 to 17 and 4,326 young adults ages 18 to 29 in four metropolitan across Texas: Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth, San Antonio and Austin.

The Government has become almost notorious for its setting of long-time goals but the ambition to have a smoke-free New Zealand by 2025 predates predator-free and swimmable river targets. When the smoke-free goal was adopted in 2011, it was dubbed "aspirational" rather than realistic, which seems to be even more true now, with only eight years to go.
