Toronto

We take care of children, the sick, and the elderly. We are the ones caring for our society's past and future. We deserve to take care of our own kids and parents too, and that means we want to come here as immigrants with our families, not as temporary workers with few rights.

- Sandra Segura, Caregivers Action Centre

Ottawa

We are urging the government to admit live-in caregivers as permanent residents from the outset."
- Christopher Sorio, the vice-chair for Migrante Canada.

If the live-in caregivers are good enough to work here, they're good enough to stay.
- Aimee Beboso, Chair, Philippine Migrants Society of Canada

Vancouver

Imagine living in the same house as your boss,” she said. “What is the difference between public time and work time? How comfortable would you feel bargaining for your rights if you live in that house and that is your shelter? New legislation should grant permanent residence status upon arrival in Canada and eliminate the live-in requirement of the program.

- Ai Li Lim, staff lawyer for the West Coast Domestic Workers’ Association. Read more on the Vancouver press event here.
