The City & Hackney Covid Rehabilitation (CoRe) Service would like to know the experience of GPs who help C&H residents gain a better understanding of where further support may be needed to assist with their Long Covid symptoms.

Please email CoRe at HUH-tr.candhcore@nhs.net with the responses to the following questions:

1)      What has been your experience in managing patients who have reported Long Covid symptoms?  Think about the referral process for the Long Covid pathway in City & Hackney and what resources were available to you with regards to information on Long Covid, the Long Covid pathway and management of Long Covid patients.

2)      Have you accessed or been made aware of the information videos on the Long Covid services across North East London and NEL Community of Practice Resources?

If you have any questions, please email HUH-tr.candhcore@nhs.net.

GP teams supporting patient access to Covid-19 treatments

To help GP teams and reception staff deal with queries from patients on treatments for Covid-19, NHS England have produced this fact sheet - which can also be found on the NHSE website - that explains the pathway. This is being shared to respond to a significant number of cases where patients have been incorrectly advised by GP practice staff and not received the necessary referral for assessment for antivirals.

The fact sheet can be printed for reception staff and will help ensure that potentially eligible patients receive an urgent triage call or review with the practice clinical team and, where appropriate, a referral to a Covid-19 Medicine Delivery Unit.

Polio booster programme paused

A reminder that the polio additional dose campaign paused on 23 December 2022. The sites at vaccination centres, hospitals and community pharmacies commissioned as part of the additional dose campaign, stopped providing polio vaccines on that date.
Please do not direct people to these centres for vaccinations.

All children remain eligible for their routine polio vaccinations and these continue to be available from their GP. The latest public polio booster information is here.

St. Joseph's Hospice recruitment fair in January 2023

St. Joseph’s Hospice, based in Mare Street, has over 600 volunteers who are helping either in the Hospice or in the local communities of Hackney, City, Tower Hamlets and Newham. The large majority of their volunteers are Hackney residents supporting Hackney residents.  However, the number of referrals received via their community projects means that more volunteers are required.

To boost the number of volunteers, there will be a recruitment fair on Wednesday 18 January 2023 from 3pm-6pm and then Saturday 21 January 2023 from 11am to 2pm.

Please see the flyer below that can be shared.

Made in Hackney - Free cooking classes starting on 17 January

Made in Hackney will start its latest session of cooking classes - free to all City & Hackney residents.  The courses will include how to cook on a budget, cooking for carers and a general community class that is open to all.   Please see the flyer, which can be shared.
