Community Bilingual Health Advocacy Service

The Community Bilingual Health Advocacy Service provides language support to GP practices in City and Hackney providing:
  • On-demand telephone interpreting service (you should use this for appointments that are less than 40 minutes in duration);
  • Face-to-face appointments;
  • Video/remote and pre-booked interpreting are available in certain circumstances
Click here for more information.
There is no cost to the GP practice for any of these services.

You can request any language and we will try to get this for you including British Sign Language (BSL). We have bilingual health advocates in-house in the following languages: Albanian, Bengali, Cantonese, French, Italian, Mandarin, Portuguese, Turkish and Vietnamese

We aim to offer a bilingual health advocate when face-to-face, video or pre-booked telephone is requested.  If we have no availability or you request a language we do not have in-house, we will purchase an interpreter from an external agency.
If you have any queries or want to discuss a referral or your language needs with someone, you can telephone and speak to the Advocacy Team.  The team operates between the hours of Monday-Friday, 09:30-17:30

Text message to parents for children's immunisation from 1st November 2021

From Monday, 1st November 2021, as part of NHSE and UK Health Security Agency’s work to improve childhood immunisation uptake in London, parents and carers will receive a text message when their child is due or overdue and immunisation.

These text reminders will be consistent with call-recall systems across GP practices in London and is supportive to increasing uptake across the UK childhood immunisation schedule.  They will be sent in addition to other text reminders that GP practices may send to parents and carers and they will not involve any costs to GP practices. It will cover the 0-5 immunisation schedule only.

Physical Activity Review - Join the Workshop

Hackney’s Public Health team is currently reviewing our approach to supporting local people to be more active in their daily lives. We will be speaking to residents, local physical activity providers, and those who work in the voluntary and community sector to inform our future plans.

We invite you to participate in an online stakeholder workshop during October and November, which will explain what we currently know about physical activity in Hackney. We would like to understand more about what gets in the way of people being more active in Hackney and what would help people overcome these barriers.

The next workshops will be on Tuesday, 26th October, 3-5:30PM and Wednesday, 3rd November, 9:30-12PM.

Online Learning Event to Strengthen Collaboration  - Tuesday, 2nd November, 2021

You are invited to attend a shared learning event on Tuesday, 2nd November 2021 that will focus on service improvement and how we learn at work in teams and across networks to enable collaborative working that builds on strengths across the system. This session is part of the refreshed Corporate plan.

This online event will be facilitated by programme leads on the Anna Freud AMBIT programme. The session is particularly relevant for frontline teams and services working directly with Hackney residents, but we also welcome others who are curious and interested in helping to develop a shared language and shared approaches to improve the lives of residents and tackle inequalities.

Structure of the session:
The day will be structured in two parts of approximately three hours each session and with participants attending either the morning or afternoon. A survey will also be shared before the event to look at strength and need.
  • The morning session (9.30-12.30) will bring together stakeholders, senior managers and leaders from the Council as well as other commissioners and others from the local network
  • The afternoon session (1.30-4.30) will bring together frontline practitioners working with residents in services across the public sector partnership system

Developing a Long COVID Community of Practice

We are setting up a community of practice to support any health and care professional working with patients who are living with Long COVID in north east London.
The aim is to provide training and guidance, and to create a network of support to help improve knowledge and skills of those managing Long COVID in any care setting and reduce variation in care.
The NEL Long Covid Community of Practice will aim to:
  • enable collaboration across NEL with consistent messaging considering local pathways
  • enable continuous learning
  • share and build better practice
  • influence the ongoing development of the education modules
  • create a support network, enabling access to expertise.
The online event will take place on Tuesday, 16th November 2021, 1-2PM.
More importantly, we would like to get your feedback on Long COVID Training to understand the type of training you need to help you support patients. This includes what content you need and how you would like to access it.

It only takes five minutes to complete. Deadline: Friday, 5th November 2021.
