Greetings from Sri Lanka
Welcome to the winter edition of our newsletter and greetings from Sri Lanka where I have been based for the last few months.

While I have been away I have managed to enjoy some great books and in this video I share some of my recent favourites with you.

I hope you enjoy the newsletter.
Nick Earls talks about feeling a bit analogue
Nick Earls
Brisbane based author Nick Earls joined The Footpath Library as an Ambassador back in 2013. A versatile writer, Nick established his credentials as a children’s writer with the successful trilogy The Word Hunters.

Our Ambassador Program Coordinator, Meredith Jaffé caught up with the living legend that is Nick Earls to chat about his soon to be released new novel and life as an iconic writer.

Listen to our new radion CSAs
The Footpath Library has hit the airways with a series of Community Service Announcements kindly recorded by our patron Peter FitzSimons, long time supporter Tim Farriss (INXS), Melbourne author ambassador Kate Holden, regular client Barry, and Founder Sarah Garnett. They are well worth a listen.
Ex-Pilot, Barry shares what The Footpath Library means to him
Ex-Pilot, Barry shares what The Footpath Library means to him
Just nine years ago Barry was working as a commercial airline pilot and now he is sleeping rough in a railway tunnel.

Life is tough for Barry but his highlight of the week is visiting The Footpath Library every Tuesday. He needs more than just food for his belly - he craves food for his mind.

Learn more about Barry’s story.
Should homeless people have pets?

It is a very common picture  - seeing someone who is living on streets to accompanied by a four legged friend. For some people, when they see a person sleeping rough with a pet they can’t help but think “why do they have a pet when they are struggling to look after themselves”. Owning a pet while sleeping rough can be filled with challenges but there are also many benefits.
Our volunteers take part in Homeless Connect
Suse and Joy at tthe Brisbane, Homeless Connect
Each year The Footpath Library’s Sydney and Brisbane branches take part in Homeless Connect, a one day event bringing together people who are homeless and at risk of homelessness with free support services from business and community groups.

A big thank you to our volunteers who helped out at the Sydney Homeless Connect and Brisbane Homeless Connect events. A special shout out to Bernadette, Suse and Joy from Brisbane (pictured), and to Susan Bailey for coordinating our involvement in Sydney.
Branching out with new volunteers and a mobile library
Our volunteers Eileen Ashe, Anna Short and Mandy King
Welcome to Kathleen Smeaton, our new Volunteers Manager in Brisbane, also welcome to our Perth Branch Client Manager, Chris Leonard and Branch Manager Lothar von Retzlaff. This quarter we have also had Liz Croger join the team as our volunteer Social Media Manager.
In other exciting news, the Melbourne Branch has recently started their first mobile library. Despite a cold and rainy night, on the first night out the interest in the 'librarians' was high! The team distributed books, scarves and glasses. They will continue to hit the road on the first Wednesday of every month.
Not so random acts of kindness
Presentation of cheque from St Alban's Epping
We would like to recognise the tremendous efforts of the Central Coast Adventist School's library who organised a Mufti Day during book week raising an impressive $287.55.
We would also like to thank the Anglican Parish of St. Alban's Epping for their generous $5,000 donation. This is the third year in a row they have donated some of the proceeds of their annual Christmas pudding sale to The Footpath Library.
Why books are like loyal friends

“Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counsellors, and the most patient of teachers.”

― Charles William Eliot
