Cuba Libre!

That was the cry of the Cubans who fought for freedom, and won, in the Spanish-Cuban-American war of the late 1890s. Today that same cry can be made by the Christians in Cuba who are embracing the freedom and liberty of Grace.
When we first went to Cuba in 1998 and 1999, Christians there were struggling with religion, ritual, and rules. Since returning from Liberia in 2015 we have been back to Cuba three times. We see a breeze of fresh grace blowing through the church. The church association we are working with dates to the early 1950s and is comprised of about twenty churches throughout the country. They are solid in their understanding of eternal security along with the inerrancy and authority of Scripture. They meet often for Bible study, good preaching, great worship, and fellowship.
On the second Saturday we were there we held a ladies’ conference with Pat and a conference I did with the men. Pat had a great time with the ladies as I taught the men. During the week every church has a weeknight service, all on different days. That meant we were able to visit, teach, encourage these believers every night. All are home churches which enjoy a great amount of freedom.
Please keep these wonderful believers in your prayers. They are hungry for grace and truth and we know the truth will give them abundant spiritual freedom. Galatians 5:1 states that, It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm . . . and John 8:32 declares, you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free. While there we made plans to return every September. That will depend on being able to get ministry visas from Cuban immigration so please pray about that with us over the next year. When we go next year, we hope to do a pastor’s conference for these courageous men who are faithful to the Word of God and His Grace.

Next up for us will be Ghana and Liberia in November. We will do a grace conference in Ghana with our dear friends James and Helena Owusu.
In Liberia I will be teaching two classes at the newly established
Evangelical Seminary of West Africa (ESWA). Pat will be doing
devotions with our friends at Samaritans Purse.
