When I lived in Liberia (2010 to 2015) I really enjoyed doing my weekly one-hour Bible study on ELWA radio. ELWA radio began in the 1950s and broadcasted the teaching of the Word of God through West and Central Africa (the most popular Bible teacher was J. Vernon McGee then and even today). What the radio did in past decades in bringing the Word of God to people in the cities as well as in the bush, the internet is doing today. Anyone with a smart phone, which is just about everyone in Africa, can stream or download Bible studies.
That is why I decided a few months ago, as the covid-19 lockdown and lockouts were keeping us from traveling to Africa, to do online video Bible study specifically for our
African grace believers. Jesus told His disciples to, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation
(Mark 16:15). We continue to do that today both physically and through electronic media.
We completed the first study in the book of Ruth, showing how God is in control of even the smallest aspects of our lives. This week I began the second series in Paul’s Epistle to the Galatians. With this there is something new. Our friend and fellow missionary, Alfred Varney, has started a weekly hour-long Bible broadcast. He ministers in a largely Muslim county in western Liberia, He is using the audio portion of Galatians for the first half hour and then taking questions for the second half hour. The broadcast is on Radio D-1, broadcasting from the town of Lofa Bridge in Grand Cape Mount county, Liberia. Pat and I are pleased that GGM can financially underwrite this ministry and we appreciate your prayers as it goes forward.
Another way we continue God’s ministry of grace in Africa is through Grace Notes (GraceNotes.info).
These download materials are training church leaders throughout Africa. I recently received this note from Pastor Matthieu Esau Justin, who is in a refugee camp in Malawi: First of all I am going to be graceful and thankful to our Dear in Christ Doctor Hill for providing this book of Mark to us. DR. Hill stay blessed exceedingly we love you honestly.
I am humbled that over the year so many have been blessed by these studies I was able to make available online through Grace Notes.
Africa is beginning to open up. Although, our plans for teaching at Ambassador International University in Zambia may be pushed to next Spring. Liberia and teaching at the graduate seminary is looking promising (click here for a You Tube visit to the ESWA campus
). I am scheduled to teach two courses in September. I am so anxious to get on a plane and get back to Africa!
Also, Pastor Cyprian Awuah Antwi of
Accra, Ghana and I have been planning for a grace conference at his church and Bible training institute as soon as the covid-19 lockdown in Ghana is eased. This should be by October or November.
Grace Gospel Missions needs and appreciates your prayers. We make our plans, but God is ordering our steps (Proverbs 16:9). Please pray for the online video Bible class in Galatians, the radio broadcast in Liberia, teaching classes at the seminary in Liberia, and the conference in Accra, Ghana. We appreciate all of you being partners with us in the mission.
Thank you! Colossians 4:2 Pray . . . for us as well, that God will open up to us a door for the word, so that we may speak forth the mystery of Christ . . .
