Rockets Over the Red in Shreveport and Bossier City
The annual Rockets Over the Red Fireworks Festival expands with new events and more fun in 2016.

Rockets Over the Red Fireworks Festival Returns on Saturday, Nov. 26

Rockets Over the Red Fireworks Festival, presented by the City of Shreveport, will be bigger and better than ever in 2016. The event will take place, 3-7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 26 at Riverview Park in downtown Shreveport and also at Louisiana Boardwalk Outlets in Bossier City. Festival offerings include live music, children’s activities and more beginning at 3 p.m. on both sides of the river. Admission is free, but guests are encouraged to bring some cash for food trucks, children’s play areas and vendors. At 6:45 p.m., Shreveport Mayor Ollie Tyler and Bossier City Mayor Lo Walker will officially “switch on” giant, lighted Christmas trees for the season. The trees will be lit in unison immediately prior to a 20-minute fireworks show set to music. The first 500 children to arrive on each side of the river will receive a free gift.
The Rockets Over the Red Fireworks Festival is brought to the community and visitors by the City of Shreveport, the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau, Cumulus Radio, Louisiana Boardwalk Outlets and the Greater Bossier Economic Development Foundation. Additional sponsors include LSU Shreveport and Whole Foods Market Shreveport-Bossier City.

Chef Gabriel Balderas recently opened El Cabo Verde in South Shreveport’s Provenance neighborhood. New Restaurants Offer Sushi, Mexican and More

Ichigo Sushi, a new sushi bar located in Bossier City’s Stockwell Place neighborhood, serves up creative, affordable sushi in a friendly and welcoming setting. The restaurant, which is located near Harrah’s Louisiana Downs, brings “New York-style” sushi to a part of town that hasn’t previously had sushi. Owner Sky Lin is known to many locals as the friendly restaurateur behind several popular Chinese restaurants in Shreveport-Bossier – including Lin’s Kitchen, which is located next door to Ichigo Sushi. Also new to the Shreveport-Bossier restaurant scene is the brick-and-mortar location of El Cabo Verde, a popular Mexican eatery run by 2016 Louisiana Cookin’ magazine Chef to Watch, Gabriel Balderas. Balderas and his team create authentic Mexican favorites like tacos, tamales and flautas using exclusively locally sourced or certified organic ingredients. El Cabo Verde is located at 1023 Provenance Place in the Provenance neighborhood.
