There’s Still Time to Catch Carnival Season!

Carnival season in Shreveport-Bossier hits a fever pitch in mid-February, as a non-stop calendar of parades and parties continue until Fat Tuesday on Feb. 28. There’s still plenty of time to plan a quick getaway to enjoy the biggest Mardi Gras parades in North Louisiana: Krewe of Centaur XXVI, 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 18; Krewe of Barkus and Meoux, 12 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 19; Krewe of Gemini XXVIII, 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25 and Krewe of Highland XXII, 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 26. In addition to the major parade events, there are a number of smaller Carnival celebrations planned including the return of the annual Children’s Parade as well as the all-new Fat Tuesday in Shrevetown Walking Parade.

A Gumbo of Spring Festivals

The conclusion of Mardi Gras season means that several of Shreveport-Bossier’s popular annual spring festivals are just around the corner. The Battle of the Gumbo Gladiators, an annual gumbo cook-off fundraiser benefiting Volunteers for Youth Justice, will be held on Saturday, March 11 in downtown Shreveport’s Festival Plaza. The event is a gumbo lover’s dream come true, with a vendor village, activities for kids and the opportunity for attendees to sample dozens of delicious gumbos and vote for their favorites. The 53rd Annual Louisiana Redbud Festival in Vivian will be held on Saturday, March 18, with a parade, car show, arts and craft vendors and a traditional street dance in the town square. On Saturday, March 25, the 10th Annual ASEANA Spring Arts Festival will celebrate Vietnamese culture with an afternoon festival featuring live music, performance art and fantastic Vietnamese street food.
