Why Family-Friendly Policies Are Important to Employees & Employers
While government mandates are lagging, companies in the U.S. are finally catching up with the importance of offering family-friendly benefits.
Other than rare exceptions, like the need to keep factories operating with Rosie the Riveters during World War II, women didn’t really account for much of the workforce until the 1960s. By the 1970s, 40 to 50 percent of women worked outside of the home. Although working women were (and are) great for the economy, there is no getting around the biological fact that women are also the ones bearing children. Read more...

NRCA Resource on Hiring Refugees
|
|
From the NRCA: As contractors continue to struggle with labor shortages, an often-overlooked strategy is hiring refugees who come to the U.S. and need employment. This option especially can be helpful given the thousands of refugees who are in the process of being resettled in the U.S. from Afghanistan. There are various resources and opportunities roofing industry employers can explore to help address their workforce issues and provide refugees with rewarding careers in roofing. NRCA has released a statement urging members to consider this unique way to supplement workforce development strategies.

Jennifer Hogan, NWiR member and also a member of the Board of Directors for IIBEC remarked that she’s never had as many female applicants for entry-level engineer positions as she has had this past Spring. What a great sign on the times in the roof and building enclosure consulting industry! Read more...
