April is a Month of Celebration

April is a month of celebration for many religions throughout the world. Luckily, as Americans we have many people from different religions around us on a daily basis. We are able to learn about the dynamics and cultures that revolve around these belief systems and find a further understanding of all walks of life. Religious difference is one of the most influential contributors to core seeded values that make up what is “us”, our population. This population consists of a melting pot of ideals and contributions to daily life. Read more...

ROOF RESTORATIONS – What is Often Overlooked Even by the Pros
Roof restoration has been a growing segment for decades and has witnessed a steep growth over the last two years in response to material outages necessary for re-roof projects. Restoration can be an excellent solution to revitalize and extend a roof’s serviceable life, postponing or completely avoiding tear off costs and wastes, but done incorrectly, it can become a short-lived Band-Aid or a complete mess. A New Virtual Council
If any new members do not have a council to join, please contact Shelly Higgins at shiggins@s-5.com who is the chair for our newly founded virtual council now called the North America Council. We now have a home for everyone! The newly developed North America Council will have some exciting virtual activities and will also be joining councils from all over the U.S. and Canada every month with exciting projects and activities. The council was developed to ensure all members have a home council. Once more members in your area join (and we are sure they will!), local or regional councils can then be established.

SRS Para Latinos Program
I started in the roofing industry in August 2014 as a Territory Manager in the Atlanta, GA market. In 2017-2018 I joined the National Women in Roofing (NWiR) Council in Atlanta, GA and led the education pillar. As a Latina in roofing, I found so much support from other women in the industry and made relationships that still stand today. I encourage all women in the roofing industry to join National Women in Roofing and if there is no council near you, start one! The benefits from networking and support from other women and allies shaped me to be the stronger woman that I am today in roofing. I am privileged to share my SHERO story in the roofing industry through NWiR’s newsletter and showcase the next phase of my journey, the SRS Para Latinos program. Read more...

How Small Businesses Can Best Navigate the 2022 Tax Season
One of the things I love doing as part of my job is environmental
scanning – which just means staying on top of new research, articles, and initiatives that affect the various segments of the roofing industry.
I saw this come across my desk from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and thought it might be of interest to NWiR members.
______________________________________
Over the last two years, the pandemic has caused tax deadlines to shift and brought about federal relief programs — all affecting how small businesses file income taxes. Although the 2022 tax season is shaping up to be closer to “business as usual,” there are some considerations of which small business owners need to be aware.
Key takeaways:
Unlike 2020 and 2021, there are no major changes small businesses need to know for this tax season.
In the early days of the pandemic, Congress allowed businesses to defer unemployment and employer taxes from their payroll. Those who elected to do so need to pay those taxes for the 2022 tax season.
Tax preparation is an ongoing process, so business owners should meet with their accountant and bookkeeper regularly.
Click here to visit the website for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and continue reading about navigating tax season in CO–’s guide for small businesses.
