LETTER FROM THE CHAIR
The month of November is always a great reminder for gratitude. Please take the time to think about all the people we have to be grateful for; friends, parents, children, other family members, mentors, your boss, your employees, or the person that smiled at you today and brought a smile to your face (my grandmother always told me “Smile at people because it does not cost you anything and can be a bright light in their day.”). The NWIR team posted about “spread an Attitude of Gratitude” on Facebook and we would love to see you show gratitude for the people you are happy and thankful for and add to the post.
I am thankful for all of you being part of NWIR. Taking the opportunity to learn from one another, being mentors and friends to one another, lifting each other up, educating one another, and bringing others into our industry. As I have told you all before I have made so many great friendships and connections, and I look forward to making more. Take this time to reach out and make connections with others. If you need an introduction to someone in the industry, please reach out to me and we will help make the connection.
Thank you all for your support and have a blessed November.

The Importance of Professional Development for Women
|
|
Professional development and continuing education are important to developing successful careers in the roofing industry. Thankfully it’s not just enough to be able to schmooze anymore, customers and clients want business owners and salespeople who are knowledgeable about the roofing assembly, and in some cases also the building envelope. Employees and colleagues want partners and managers who are emotionally intelligent, able to coach and mentor, and who have the skills to grow their business efficiently and effectively. Read more...

NOTES FROM THE OFFICE
Ellen Thorp, M.A., CAE; NWiR Executive Director

I like to stay up to date on how the roofing industry and adjacent industries are doing from an economic and market perspective. While some of this information is proprietary, there are several sources outside of the roofing industry that I like to look at. I listen to the podcasts while I walk my dog and then either sign up for the email reports or bookmark them on my computer and read them while I eat lunch or stand and stretch. Read more...
