Plastic vs. Wood Pallets

If you work in the manufacturing or logistics industries, you know how important pallets are.  Pallets are a vital part of any supply chain, so it's worth thinking about which type is ideal for all aspects of your organization in the long run.  Pallets are built of a variety of materials, the most common of which are wood and plastic.

Plastic pallets are the fastest-growing pallet material among all of these materials, according to several supply chain managers.  They have the advantage of not rotting or molding, and may be pressure washed to remove any dirt or debris when needed.  The majority of stored chemicals will not hurt or destroy the plastic substance.  In comparison to wooden pallets, which are readily destroyed by water and chemicals and are considerably more difficult to maintain clean, plastic pallets are a far cleaner option.

The average wooden pallet can have up to 100 nails, posing a risk to employees and materials. These dangers only get worse as the wooden pallets get older and wear out.  By decreasing the risk of broken nails, splinters, and broken boards, you can prevent pallet-related labor accidents.

Plastic pallets may be more expensive up front than wood pallets, but their longevity and dependability are well worth the investment and will save you a lot of money in the long term.

Wooden pallets have a hard time in humid regions and extreme weather. They splinter, break, and absorb water, causing them to decay considerably more quickly. A timber pallet's lifespan is typically 3-5 years, whereas plastic pallets have a long-lasting design that can last up to 10 years. Food, dairy, wine and spirits, chemical, mattress, flooring, appliance, material handling, and packaging industries have all benefited from the conversion from wooden to plastic.
