Best wishes for the new year and welcome to Issue 1: 2022 of the IPHS Newsletter! The Newsletter is an electronic channel of communication with the Society’s members and affiliates, and as a means to share news, achievements, publications, resources and other items of interest with the international planning history community, and to provide updates on Society matters. Our aim is for members to be the primary contributors of content to the newsletter. Thank you to those who have submitted items for this issue.
Planning is well and truly in train for the 19th IPHS conference – City Space Transformation: Resilient Urban Environments – being held as a virtual event between 4 and 6 July 2022. The convenor, Professor Alexey Krasheninnikov, Moscow Architectural Institute (MARHI), has reported an enthusiastic response to the Call for Papers with almost 200 abstracts of papers and session proposals submitted. Thank you to IPHS members for supporting and promoting our Society’s conference and to everyone who has submitted an abstract! Keep an eye on the conference website for information about the program and how to register. A reminder that the program will include a session in which the recipients of the IPHS Prizes and Awards 2022 will be announced.
A reminder, too, that IPHS membership renewals are due for 2022. And if you are not a member, please consider joining the IPHS. You would be very welcome! Ours is an interdisciplinary Society with academic, postgraduate student and practitioner members drawn from planning, architecture, urban design, history, geography, sociology, politics and related fields. The benefits of membership include six issues of the IPHS journal Planning Perspectives (a print or online subscription is available), a concessional registration rate for the IPHS conference, the IPHS newsletter and a 20% discount on all Routledge books. For further information about the benefits, membership categories and rates, how to renew your membership or how to join the Society, see the membership section of the IPHS website.
All the best for good health and productive times in 2022.
