A Message from Jane

Due to market conditions, Sonoco Recycling can no longer provide recycling pick-up service for area schools. This was a difficult business decision that was not made lightly. We have truly valued our longstanding recycling partnership with area schools, and we plan to continue our sustainability-focused education partnerships.

Although we can no longer provide hauling service, we hope that each community will seek innovative solutions to keep school recycling viable. Sonoco Recycling will continue to be here to process your materials and offer support through recycling education.

Please let us know how we can help.

SC Green Step Schools

My favorite springtime activity is visiting local Green Step Schools to see what environmental projects they have established, improved and sustained during the school year. Mentors will submit their end-of-year reports by May 15, and schools and mentors will receive awards on June 23.

Makers Movement

Many local schools are joining the national Makers Movement. Pontiac Elementary, a local certified SC Green Step School, has a fun Maker Space where students are creating fun from junk.

Keep the Midlands Beautiful Shoe Collection

Every year, local schools have a chance to help others by collecting gently used shoes and donating them to Keep The Midlands Beautiful’s annual shoe drive, which runs through May 15 this year.
