Nothing is as hopeful as seeing young citizens working to make positive changes in the world around them. We're dedicating this issue to exploring some inspiring examples of this in our community.

K-12 Students Take Plarning to a New Level
|
|
Kindergarten students at Dutch Fork Elementary’s Academy of Environmental Science learned to make plarn (plastic bag yarn.) They passed their huge balls of plarn on to Columbia’s “Operation Bed Roll” crochet team, which is turning the plarn into bedrolls for Columbia’s unsheltered population. Hear the students talk about their experience.
And… Dutch Fork High School’s “Job Training” students have completed 5 bedrolls and have 3 more under construction. WOW!
Other local schools on board with this project include: Barclay School, Bridge Creek Elementary School, Chapin Middle School, Irmo Elementary School, Irmo Middle School, Joseph Keels Elementary School, Killian Elementary School, Meadow Glen Elementary School, Pleasant Hill Elementary School, and Rice Creek Elementary School.
If your school is participating or would like to, contact jane.hiller@sonoco.com.
