A Message from Jane

How much fun to begin a new school year!
Many teachers have been in classes and workshops this summer to gain new skills and insights. I feel fortunate to have participated in some of those events where educators shared inspiration and best practices. This fall, many more environmental education opportunities will be available. We hope your school will participate!

Rethink Contest

Local K-12 students are invited to take part in our annual Midlands RETHINK Contest. This year’s theme is FIREFLIES which highlights a local species being affected by climate change.

Students can use any repurposed materials to create a firefly or a repurposed object decorated with fireflies. Entries submitted by teachers are due November 1, 2016 for the November 12, 2016 contest at Saluda Shoals Park.

AWARDS

S.C. Green Step School Awards

Each year, S.C. Green Step School Awards are presented for well-established, model-quality projects that help conserve, protect or restore a school’s environment. Teams must work with qualified mentors and provide pictures of students learning, doing and teaching others about their projects.

Last year, nine counties participated in the program. We are proud of all local Green Step schools!
