A Sacred Space

When I was a child growing up, I had a special place that I loved to go. It was a grove of pine trees near our house.  I remember sitting on the sandy floor, smelling the strong scent of pine, and listening to the wind as it moved through the branches.  I loved going there just to spend a little quiet time.  I recognize now that it was my sacred space.

Now in the summertime, my sacred space is our screened porch where I can enjoy the fresh air without any pesky bugs.  I can look out over our yard and enjoy the birds, squirrels, butterflies, flowers, and the ever changing sky.  If there is a gentle breeze, the chimes will offer their soothing sound.  It is the perfect place for meditation, reading, or writing.  It feels like a little bit of heaven.

When the weather turns cold, my sacred space moves indoors.  I have a corner with my favorite chair, and my lap desk.  My room is filled with my favorite friends, books!  There are two windows through which I can watch whatever weather is happening outside.  Sometimes I turn on music, but mostly I like the quiet.  With my fuzzy blanket on my lap, and mug of hot beverage warming my hands, I am once again in a bit of heaven.

I am so grateful for my sacred spaces!  It is important to me to spend time in these places for the peace that it brings.  If you do not have a sacred space, perhaps you can begin to create one that is right for you.  Find a spot where you can relax and enjoy peaceful moments.  Indoors or outdoors, it can be a place where your soul can feel replenished just by being there.
