🍗 Flavortown comes to the City Beautiful

Plus, 17 socially-distanced things to do this weekend.

The Year of the Ox is upon us.

Today kicks off Lunar New Year, a day traditionally spent celebrating with family, food, and red envelopes as you bid farewell to the old year to welcome in the new one.

Because of the pandemic, most celebrations have gone virtual this year, and some canceled, including the annual Central Florida Dragon Parade. But what's not canceled is the takeout ox box down below from Hawkers. In addition to lo mein, dumplings, spring rolls, and other culinary delights, there's also a chance to win free Hawkers for a year. Be still my heart. 💘

Also worth putting on your radar: Divertastic Dining, a monthly dinner gathering by the same folks who bring us Fusion Fest every year, is hosting a Lunar New Year celebration Thursday, Feb. 25 at Taste of Chengdu in Baldwin Park. Tickets are $50 and you can head here to learn more about the menu and COVID-19 safety protocols.

All that deliciousness for $36.88, now through Feb. 26. 📸: @eathawkers | Wanna see your photo here? Tag either #pulptown or @pulptown on Instagram to be featured as our IG of the Day!

What Orlando is talking about

📈 Tax season begins today. And it’s guaranteed to be a confusing one for most people. That’s because the pandemic has greatly impacted old ways of doing things. For example, losing a job, gaining unemployment, not receiving a stimulus payment — it all adds up. 👉 This article from ClickOrlando might help.

🚲 Pine Street is getting a bike lane. The city shared yesterday that they’ve begun the design process for a two-way, 10-foot-wide cycle path. It’d be part of the city’s proposed 8.5-mile bicycle beltway project that will connect Gertrude’s Walk and the Orlando Urban Trail along with other planned routes. Bungalower breaks it down for us.

🍗 Flavortown comes to the City Beautiful. Look no further for your dinner plans, we — or rather Guy Fieri — has you covered. That’s right, everyone’s favorite Food Network host is opening up a delivery-only restaurant in Orlando. You can order from Guy Fieri’s Flavortown Kitchen through its app, GrubHub, Uber, and other delivery services, or through the website. Nothing says romance like wings and cheesesteak egg rolls, amirite? 🙃 Get the scoop from Orlando Weekly.

🕹 Electronic Arts confirmed that the new EA Sports College Football Game will be created in the game developer’s Orlando office, hopefully creating hundreds of new jobs for the community. It should be a big year for EA — it's moving its offices to Creative Village later this year. Read more on Fox35.

🎹 Longtime Orlando music blog Shows I Go To just gave Ben Rosenblum’s show at Timucua Arts Foundation its seal of approval. Rosenblum is a jazz pianist, accordionist, composer, and a graduate of Columbia-Juilliard. He’s performing live at Timucua at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. tonight, and you can even stream the show online. Tickets are available here

*Editor’s note: In yesterday’s newsletter, I made a mistake and said that the opening night of the Van Gogh Affect was last night. I was wrong. It’s tonight at 7 p.m. at SNAP! Orlando studio. I’m sorry I misled you, but this means you can still attend tonight, so win-win? 🙃 Thanks Julie for catching my mistake!

In COVID-19 headlines…

😷 The Orange County Jail is currently experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak with 62 infected inmates and 14 infected correctional officers. It’s the first outbreak for the jail since the pandemic started and so far, no one has been hospitalized. For now, that means some restrictions on visitation and inmate movement. Orlando Sentinel has more.
