Plus, will the latest "legalize this" bill go up in smoke?

Welcome to Tuesday, y’all.

It’s looking like a beautiful day out there, with a high of 82 and a low of 63 plus some sunshine and a few clouds in the forecast.

That said, we’re doling out sunshine in today’s newsletter too, starting with this snapshot of Chelsie’s breakfast at Maple Street Biscuit Co. the other day. #getinmybelly

This maple syrup covered chicken and bacon biscuit can only be found at Maple Street Biscuit Co. and lucky you, there are two nearby locations: Get your noshin' on in Celebration or Oviedo. Yes, it's worth the drive. 📸: @hello.chelsie | Wanna see your photo here? Tag us on the 'gram, using either #pulptown or @pulptown.

What Orlando is talking about

🍩 Orlando is getting a new doughnut shop. Well, newish. Dochi, the mochi doughnut spot located at East End Market, is expanding its operations to a new shop in Mills 50 and it could be open as early as next month. (Orlando Weekly)

💨 An Orlando lawmaker has filed a bill to legalize recreational marijuana in Florida. Rep. Carlos Guillermo-Smith is hoping the state legislature will finally push the bill through — it’s not the first time such legislation has been proposed. According to the fine print, “The bill would allow adults (over the age of 21) to buy 2.5 ounces of cannabis or a product with up to 2 grams of THC.” However, chiefing cheeba in public spaces would remain illegal. (Orlando Sentinel

📰 If you’ve lived in Orlando for more than a decade, you’ve no doubt heard the name Jennifer Kesse. She went missing from her Millenia apartment 15 years ago almost to the day. According to a report from Fox News, her parents are still fighting to figure out what happened to her. Kesse’s dad says they’re closer than ever to getting answers; binge the "House of Broken Dreams: The Jennifer Kesse story” podcast to get up to speed. (Fox News

🎟 The infamous Jungle Cruise attraction at Animal Kingdom is undergoing some updates this year according to a report from Walt Disney World. The planned adjustments include making changes to the scenery and placing greater emphasis on diversity and inclusion. Don’t worry:  The witty skippers (aka the main attraction) aren’t going anywhere. (Orlando Sentinel)

📣 Could the Sunshine State host the summer Olympic games this year? Jimmy Patronis, Florida’s Chief Financial Officer, sure hopes so. He sent a letter to the International Olympic Committee yesterday asking to move the summer games from Tokyo to Florida. Patronis’ request — which was also blasted on social media — follows reports that Japanese officials have privately expressed doubts that the Olympics will take place due to the pandemic. The Japanese government has since said the games will proceed as planned.  (WESH)

In COVID-19 news…

💉 The White House said Florida has only distributed about half of the vaccines it’s received. The statement was made in response to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ remarks last week claiming that Florida didn’t need pop-up FEMA sites to help distribute the COVID-19 vaccine — what we need are more vaccines. (WESH

☎️ Florida Department of Health rolled out a COVID-19 vaccine appointment-setting hotline over the weekend. It’s what we’re working with at the moment until a bigger rollout plan takes effect later this year. (WESH)
