Hey there.

Know what I realized yesterday? Cartographers are really cool. (That’s people who draw maps, for those of us who are pretty sure they know what it means but could use some extra confirmation. Hi, that was me yesterday!)

Anyway, during my daily internet roaming to find all the news I think Pulptown readers could use, I found someone on Reddit who spent the last month creating a map of Orlando just because. It happens to be really pretty, although he’s waiting to discover a road or neighborhood he might’ve missed.

Head here to see if your home street made it to the map.

And in more Reddit fun finds, this AP Capstone student welcomes your opinions on Florida’s high speed rail system, this guy wants suggestions for solo COVID-friendly adventures in Central Florida, and this very useful pro-tip for Pub Sub purveyors: You can sign up for Pub Sub sale text alerts on your phone.

Alright, let’s talk about the boozy new Taco Bell, arguably the best burger in town, and UCF football.

Top o’ the mornin’ to ya, Orlando. Or is it top o’ the evening? Either way, make it a good day. 📸: @bankshelfrich | Wanna see your photo here? Tag either #pulptown or @pulptown  on Instagram to be featured as our IG of the Day!

What Orlando is talking about

🌮 Taco Bell Cantina opened in downtown yesterday and it was all my Facebook feed could taco bout. 🙃 The cantina offers the fast-food institution’s traditional menu along with more upscale options and, very importantly, serving up sangria, beer, wine, and “twisted freezes”. It’s open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. and until 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Hey, I read it on Bungalower.

🍔 According to recent results from the annual Orlando Burger Week, the Mamba Tribute Burger at Alex’s Fresh Kitchen in Casselberry is the best burger in town. Which is sadly fitting, as we just hit the one-year anniversary of Kobe’s passing. The burger itself is an Angus beef brisket and beef chuck blended with 24 spices and topped with fried jalapeños, fried pickles, garlic aioli, butter lettuce, and Gouda cheese sauce. And because you can’t have a proper burger without bread, it’s all sandwiched between toasted brioche buns. See a pic of the monster yourself on Orlando Weekly.

🍜 Orlando foodie reporter Faiyaz Kara just broke down the best eateries opening in Orlando this year and I think it’s worth bookmarking. Whether it’s Bombay Street Kitchen, The Monroe, Kaya or Perla’s Pizza, there’s still lots to look forward to, Orlando. Head to Orlando Weekly for the full list.

🛣 Scandal’s a-brewing over the I-4 Ultimate Project. Well, among its contractors anyway. You’re gonna have to head to the article for the full scoop, but in so many words, one arm of the contractors managing I-4 construction is suing the lead group, alleging that it has mismanaged money and “violated fiduciary responsibilities to the detriment of partners”. Orlando Sentinel’s got the scoop.

🏈 University of Central Florida football head coach Josh Heupel announced yesterday that he had accepted a job at University of Tennessee as its head coach. Heupel’s departure is effective immediately; he’s joining former UCF Athletic Director Danny White, who now serves as UT’s Athletic Director. ESPN goes into more detail if you want it.

🎓 Three Florida universities have come together to launch a consortium addressing social justice, diversity, equity and inclusion within their programs. FIU, UCF and University of South Florida will spend the year championing a “Year of Reflection” where they’ll take on global, national, and local happenings impacting their campus communities and apply their findings to research and programming for faculty, staff, and students. Visit FIU News for more info.
