Winemaker's Note
12 Wines, 9 Vintages, 6 Reds, 6 Whites: 90 Average Score
I hope all is well. I wanted to drop you a note to tell you about some exciting news from Antonio Galloni’s Vinous (Antonio Galloni served as Robert Parker's primary critic). I think it helps tell the story of consistency here at Shaw.
Wine expert Kelli White recently visited the Finger Lakes on behalf of Vinous and tasted through the Shaw lineup. We poured her 12 wines from 9 vintages, and she responded very positively (scores below).
As you know, this spread of vintages is hardly a gimmick. The Shaw approach is to cellar age our wines for later release. When you visit Shaw, there is always a variety of wines available, in different styles, from various vintages. We take an intensive hands-on approach to each wine, and while no two years are the same we strive to make excellent wine even in the toughest conditions.
The theme at Shaw is consistency of quality through experimentation. That’s what a boutique winery is all about. Each wine has its story, and I’m proud of the decisions I’ve had to make every vintage.
Please read Kelli’s report about the Finger Lakes and its wonderful producers, and do visit us here at Shaw. We are open 7 days a week and hope to see you again this summer or fall.
