Hi <<First Name>>,

Life at the Capitol is in full swing as my fellow legislators and I continue to work in support of our communities. This past weekend I traveled to Gunnison and had a great community meeting. I invite you to contact me with your thoughts and ideas. Also keep in mind one of the best ways to follow my day-to-day work is on Twitter, @kerrydonovansd5 or click the link at the bottom of this newsletter.

In the last newsletter I briefed you on my goals for this legislative session. Below is a glimpse into some of the bills that I have begun working on after hearing from you.

Rural Economic Advancement of Colorado Towns - REACT ACT

Rural towns throughout Colorado experience different issues than many of the larger cities. As a Senator who represents many rural towns, I want to ensure that the unique concerns of these constituents are heard.  This bill will provide assistance to rural economies which are struggling due to job losses. This bill supports communities and diversifies economies so that our towns can continue to flourish for generations to come.

All communities, regardless of whether they are located along I-25 or in a mountain valley, deserve the same access to high-speed broadband.  This session, I am working to make sure there is funding for broadband infrastructure. I also am looking at existing regulations to make sure they still work for our communities.

Industrial Hemp in Animal Feed

Industrial hemp has a number of uses within the state of Colorado. I am advocating that animal feed should not be labeled adulterated simply because of the addition, or inclusion, of hemp in the feed. This should broaden the use of hemp and support the emerging hemp market.

Catastrophic Insurance Plans

This session, I will advocate for Colorado health insurance carriers to offer and issue a catastrophic health insurance plan to eligible individuals in the highest cost areas of the state. This is a three year program to offer lower cost options while long-term fixes are implemented. I am continuing to work with the executive branch and house on additional bills to address the cost of healthcare- stay tuned.

Gary is still hard at work supporting District 5 at the Capitol!
