Annual Reception 2014 - mHealth

mHealth has been a hot topic for the past couple of months. How does one choose their health apps? Are they reliable? I have a headache. Do I take paracetamol or should I book an MRI? Nowadays there are many different types of apps with different scopes. Some apps focus on healthy lifestyles, others on disease management and prevention, or some can even remind us to take our medicines.

John Chave (PGEU), Alex Wyke (PatientView), Richard Bergström (EFPIA), Michael Strübin (Continua Health Alliance) and Edwin Maarseveen (DG SANCO, e-Health and HTA) were guest speakers at this year's Annual Reception discussing mHealth.

Without a doubt, mHealth has many potential benefits.  It could help reduce costs to healthcare systems and ensure they remain feasible. mHealth apps contain a wealth of  information which could play a big role in improving healthcare. However, one has to ensure that data comes from a reputable source.

Talks at the reception were followed by a debate where attendees asked their own questions and put forward their opinions.  The final take-home message was that mHealth is thankfully here to stay! The future proves to be exciting, what next can we expect from mHealth in the future?

It was a truly engaging session - two hours were definitely not enough!
