How's the traffic around your school?

Traffic and parking problems around our schools is emerging as a major concern. We have created an online survey to find out more so that we can bring the issue to the attention of government. We have already had a terrific response to the survey, but if you have not already done so, please have your say and pass on the link to other parents.

School funding symposium: delegate wanted

Council is looking for a parent to represent us at the Need to Succeed Symposium in Sydney in October. Join with principals, teachers, parents, students, system leaders and charities to explore new data, discuss why Gonski still matters and hear how NSW is rolling out a needs-based funding model to give all students a chance to learn. Council will cover travel, accommodation and registration costs and the nominated person would be required to write a report on the seminar. Email us if you would like to go.

Literacy and Numeracy Field Officers to continue

Council has been informed that the Education and Training Directorate will maintain and expand the Literacy and Numeracy Field Officers program in ACT public schools, despite the national funding for the program ceasing. Special funding to low SES (socio-economic status) schools will also continue. This is excellent news, as these are highly valued programs and, Council believes, is an example of Gonski funding working for the benefit of our schools.

Have your say on child care reform

ACT residents are encouraged to have their say about making child care more affordable, flexible and accessible as new analysis shows the ACT had the largest increase in enrolments in the nation. You can comment on the Productivity Commission's Inquiry into Child Care and Early Childhood Learning with a formal submission or a brief online comment before September 5.
