"And If You Know Your History..." a new series looking at the History of the Vegan Movement
Our new series of blogs, entitled ‘And If You Know Your History...’, created by Dr Roger Yates of the Dublin-based Vegan Information Project, looks at how veganism as a social movement has emerged and developed with the focus on accounts of the individual pioneers of the vegan movement. A series of around 10 blogs will be published between August and October 2019, in the run-up to VegfestUK London.
The Difficult and Argumentative Birth of the Vegan Social Movement
In Part 1 of 'And if you know your history', Dr. Roger Yates looks at how veganism as a social movement emerged and developed with the focus on accounts of the individual pioneers of the vegan movement.
Fasten your seatbelts for over a dozen of captivating vegan festivals and fairs coming up in August – new vegan products, new vegan friends, support for new vegans and information for emerging vegan activists come in abundance at these festivals, and above all, everyone can have a fantastic day out without the added pressure of checking ingredients to ensure that everything is vegan.
Please note: these events are organised by groups and individuals other than VegfestUK, although we support them all by including them in this monthly blog – for further info and latest updates about these events, please visit their event websites / Facebook event pages.

BioCanna: Growing in an honest and sustainable way
In this guest blog, BioCanna, who is kindly sponsoring the Veganic Growing area at this year’s VegfestUK London, talks about the reasons behind sustainable food growing and how their plant-based nutrients enhance the quality of our produce.
"Organic food is rising in popularity but many supermarkets treat it as a luxury item to be sold at a premium price. Having the opportunity to grow your own produce without pesticides and consume it straight from the greenhouse or garden is in every way greater to food that is full of additives, packed to prevent deterioration, transported and then sold as ‘fresh’. There’s also the understanding that we’re contributing to the sustainability of our planet."
