Yellowstone Treasures Newsletter, from Granite Peak Publications
October 2014
Here's the latest about the Yellowstone Treasures guidebook, accompanied by a photo of Emerald Pool in Black Sand Basin (which is also on page 72 of the guidebook). You're getting this very occasional e-newsletter because you asked for information, bought books from our website, or we know you personally and think you would enjoy receiving update e-mails. Feel free to forward it to anyone you know who might be interested. To unsubscribe, see the link at the end of this letter.
Park news
Every year the figure-eight-shaped Grand Loop Road (see a park map here) closes to cars in the fall until there is enough snow to open some of them to snowcoaches and snowmobiles in mid December. The Dunraven Pass road between Canyon Village and Tower Junction closed on October 15. This fall the road over Craig Pass, between Old Faithful and West Thumb, closed early for construction on September 2, making traffic between the South Entrance and Old Faithful have to take a big detour all around the south loop of Grand Loop Road. Tell your friends to always check road conditions and closures before heading to the park!
About the new e-book
Do you want to introduce a friend to Yellowstone with a shorter format? Or would you like to be able to use your phone, tablet, or other e-book reader as a guide to the geysers and hot springs? We have compiled a new short e-book of geyser basin walking tours called Visiting Geyserland. It consists of excerpts from Yellowstone Treasures: The Traveler's Companion to the National Park (2013), with five maps, anecdotes relating historical experiences with the geyser eruptions, a list of precautions, and resources to explore if you want to learn more about geysers. Visiting Geyserland has been available since October 15 on iBooks, Kindle, Nook, and as a PDF.

Contemplating Morning Glory Pool inspired her to create a list of her favorite 20 easily found hot springs in Yellowstone. Janet revisits most of them every time she visits the park. She promises to write about some other favorites on her blog in the months to come, saying "it will be a delightful memory trip for my off-season months!"
