Library Advocacy Day

Wed, March 2, 2016

Mid-Hudson member library staff, trustees, Friends and patrons of all ages are encouraged to attend Library Advocacy Day in Albany sponsored by the New York Library Association (NYLA).  The goal is to help legislators understand how much people care about libraries by packing the offices at every appointment. All appointments with legislators are made centrally through MHLS. Appointment schedule is emailed out to those who register and posted at Meetings are scheduled between 10:00am - 3:00pm.  If you missed Library Advocacy Day, please keep the pressure on by going online to  Use the Advocacy tab and click on ‘Contact Your Elected Officials.’  Or just click the image above.
We have two big items to advocate for this year:
1.      Increase State Library Aid Proportionally with Increases in Education Funding. Library funding is being held flat by the Governor. The Legislature has the opportunity to do the right thing for their constituents and increase library aid to match the Governor’s proposed 4.3% increase to Education Aid.
2.      An increase in State Aid for Public Library Construction. Held flat for 10 years, now is the time to increase the investment in New York’s library facilities. With more than half of MHLS member library facilities unable to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act stipulations and seriously aging infrastructure (56% of libraries in MHLS are over 50 years old and 38% are over 100 years old!) NOW is the time for an increase.

Rosendale Library Presents:

Mark Morganstern

Reads Selections From Jump (a work in progress)

Wednesday, Mar. 9 at 7pm

Mark Morganstern, Author of Dancing With Dasein and owner of The Rosendale Cafe

Rosendale Library is proud to host Mark Morganstern, author of the recently published and well-received book of short stories, "Dancing With Dasein".
Mark left a budding music career behind when he realized he didn't want to play weddings in a cover band.  He parlayed a long-term literary interest
into an MA in Creative Writing from CUNY, adjuncting, subbing in a high school, and booking music acts at the Rosendale Cafe.
When off-duty, he writes, submits, files rejection slips and and gets published.  He believes in fiction.

Story Hour at the Rosendale Library

It's Spring and our daffodils are sprouting.  We have such excitement at the Story Hour.  We are celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday on March 3 and of course this is the month that we celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Come visit us and get in on the fun.. each Thursday from 10am-11am.  By the way, we will have Story Hour on Thursday, March 24th even though our schools are closed.  We encourage our older children to join us if you are available.  Miss Annie would love to see you.

Applications have been sent to the above high school guidance offices and to the Rosendale Youth Center.  They are also available at the Rosendale Library desk.  The deadline for submissions is April 10.  Please bring completed applications to the library or mail to:

Anna Mae Auchmoedy was the woman we have to thank for the original idea of the Rosendale Library.  Anna Mae and the Comus Club of Rosendale started our library in 1940.  The Women’s Club of Rosendale was key in promoting and supporting our young library.
Lottie Burns worked very closely with Anna Mae for many years.

“Flies With An Eagle”

Rosendale Library would like to offer congratulations to Luke Lazin, of Boy Scout Troop 17, on attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.

Luke had chosen the Rosendale Library to be the beneficiary of his community service project, an objective which went toward earning his Eagle Scout requirements.

This commitment included the organization, fundraising, procurement and installation of our library’s flagpole last year, which proudly stands beside our book return drop-box.

The library wishes to once again acknowledge his contribution, for not only improving our visibility as a public institution but also for offering a superb demonstration of how individuals can give back to their community.

We are honored to have been a small part of Luke’s celebration which was held in Tillson on January 2nd at American Legion Post # 1219
