Storm Shelters Serving Dual Purpose

With the "polar vortex" still hovering over the mid-west, the 2014 tornado season is off to a quiet start.  However, weather experts anticipate a rush of violent weather once the cold air finally retreats.  Although the extreme weather may not begin to show itself until mid-April, AccuWeather officials expect a spike in violent weather around the nation throughout May and June; particularly a more active May that we have experienced in years.  With the professional opinion that we are due for an active spring, it is incredibly important that communities and businesses are equipped with shelters that are capable of handling treacherous weather.

Klingner & Associates staff is experienced in designing safe rooms; which are hardened structures specifically designed to meet Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) criteria and provide "near-absolute protection" in extreme weather events.  These events include tornadoes and hurricanes.  According to FEMA, "near-absolute protection" means that, based on current knowledge of extremely powerful storms, safe room structures would be built in accordance with FEMA guidance to provide a structure with a very high probability of being protected from injury or death.

Recently, Klingner assisted Burlington Community School District with their dual-purpose FEMA compliant storm shelter; serving both protection from major storms and an athletic facility.  Click here to read more on this Klingner designed shelter.

As we approach tornado season, be sure your facility is as storm ready as possible.  Contact your nearest Klingner office today.  We may be able to assist your funding search as well!
