The Embassy of Canada celebrated 30 years at our location on Pennsylvania Avenue last week. Like any 30-year old, we celebrated with meditation, puppies, and more. But the festivities haven’t kept us from our work across the United States. Below is some of what you may have missed, and as always, learn more at connect2canada.com.

Trade: Ambassador MacNaughton & Deputy Ambassador Hillman Talk USMCA

  • Ambassador David MacNaughton & Deputy Ambassador Kirsten Hillman have both been talking up USMCA’s benefits to the North American economy with the Economic Club of Washington, CSIS’ Trade Guys, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Transportation Border Summit. The Ambassador and Deputy Ambassador made clear Canada needs a permanent and immediate exemption to U.S. 232 steel and aluminum tariffs to fully reap the benefits of USMCA.

Foreign Policy: Special Envoy Bob Rae Visits the Embassy

  • Prime Minister Trudeau’s Special Envoy to Myanmar, Bob Rae, visited the Embassy to talk about his work addressing the Rohingya crisis. He shared his message to U.S. policymakers and the international community in this video

Environment: Protecting Our Nature is “In Our Nature”

  • Earlier in April at the Nature Summit in Montreal, we kicked off an ambitious campaign to double the size of protected land and water in Canada by 2020. This plan will rely on input from the indigenous communities that have been protecting the land and water in Canada for centuries. To view the “In Our Nature” campaign click here.

Canada-U.S. Space Cooperation: A Visit from NASA Astronaut Andrew Feustel

  • Did you know that Canada was the third country in space? NASA Astronaut and dual U.S.-Canadian citizen Andrew Feustel dropped by the Embassy to discuss how the U.S. and Canada work together in space. To learn more about the collaboration and NASA Astronaut Feustel’s visit click here.
