It is with great sadness in our hearts and tears in our eyes that we relay this tragic news. After a weeklong battle in the ICU, our brave little Bunny could fight no more.
When we rescued Bunny, the shelter thought she had road rash from being hit by a car and dragged. But as the days progressed, the ER vets felt her injuries were more consistent with that of a chemical burn. The necrotic tissue continued to spread throughout her body...each day was worse than the day before. As the dead tissue sloughed off, her entire body was covered in raw oozing flesh.
Even with intensive round-the-clock treatment, she could not overcome the raging infection, and went into septic shock. As the life mercifully left her damaged body, she relaxed...now with the angels and free of earthly pain.
Bunny touched us all very deeply. We visited her daily, and though she was in too much pain to be petted, she spoke to us with her expressive soulful brown eyes...one look would melt your heart. Such a young life taken way too soon.
Amidst our grief, we drove Bunny's body to Texas A&M diagnostic lab for a necropsy. We are hopeful they will be able to officially determine the cause of her wounds and death. We plan to file a cruelty report with the Harris County Animal Cruelty Task Force. No animal should have to endure such a tragedy.
We thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers and support. Because of you, Bunny experienced love and was not alone in her time of need.
Please consider making a donation in her memory. It will help us pay off Bunny's remaining $5,000 medical bill and allow us to continue to fight for those who have no voice but ours.Donations can be made by check or by credit card or PayPal on our website.
RIP sweet Bunny.
You will live on in our hearts forever. ♥
