For the past 11 years The Friendship Circle has been doing inspirational work directly impacting on the lives of people with disabilities in the Jewish community. We support some of the most vulnerable people in society by providing them with an essential social outlet.
COVID-19 is causing a great deal of worry for everyone; from the health of our elderly parents to the gut wrenching fear about our livelihoods and security. Life as we know it is on hold, but we wanted to touch base with you and give you an update as best we can about our immediate plans.
We have been forced to take drastic measures by stopping our face to face services to protect the health and wellbeing of our members and volunteers.
Although necessary, social distancing is extremely isolating and scary for our members, many of whom suffer from extreme anxiety and mental health issues. They in particular are struggling to cope with the enormity of what is happening to their lives.
To our members The Friendship Circle is their lifeline and we are doing everything we can to stay connected and offer them the unlimited support and friendship they need in these unprecedented times.
STAY CONNECTED CAMPAIGN
Along with our volunteers we are making sure that each and every member is contacted on a daily basis and their emotional, physical and social needs are met, taking into account each individual’s capacity and understanding.
- A Phone Buddy Programme has been established where members regularly communicate with a volunteer via phone, text or video.
- Online Social Platforms such as Zoom, Whatsapp and Facebook are being used for live chats and fun social evenings, reducing loneliness and isolation.
- Pick me Up Packs including games, garden seeds, arts & crafts, snacks and other goodies are being sent out, helping to lift people's spirits.
As well as being affected by the temporary closure of our programmes,we have been unable to host all upcoming fundraising events which are a critical source of revenue for us.
On that note we are appealing to our supporters in the community to come together during this challenging time and, if you have the means, please make a donation.
£50 will help a member STAY CONNECTED
