Brehm Preparatory School, Inc. Update

Brehm Prep families,

I know all of us have had on our minds the question of when school can return to a normal, on-campus experience.  We have awaited guidance from the State of Illinois at this critical time in regard to school closure, and Governor J. B. Pritzker has just announced that all in-person instruction will be cancelled through the end of the academic year.

In the coming week, the Student Life staff will be in communication with each family in regards to packing up student rooms and providing needed belongings.  The school will provide storage for any student items left on campus at no cost. I ask that you wait to hear directly from the Student Life staff, however you are welcome to contact Terri Douglas or me if you have urgent questions.

I remind you that the Board of Trustees and I are evaluating our financial policies, in order to respond to requests for the return of a portion of funds that families have paid.  It is our goal to provide definitive policies by the end of the month. We have rescheduled our summer program dates to Sunday July 5 through Saturday August 1. Our intent is to offer the program on campus, with a contingency plan for a different experience through virtual programming, should shelter-in-place remain in effect for our area.

One group that I am particularly sensitive to are the members of our graduating classes.  At this time of the year, it is typically a moment of celebration. This period of the unknown as it relates to campus closure and graduation must be a trying time for them.  Graduation will still occur, although in a virtual format, on Friday May 29th at 2:30 pm Central Standard Time, as a time of celebration and acknowledgement. Many aspects will be new, however we will preserve many of the same traditions, which make the ceremony so meaningful and allow the entire Brehm community to celebrate the accomplishments of our graduates.  Please look for our Graduation invitation to arrive next week.

I know this continues to be a challenge for everyone, and I am so appreciative of the support and affirmation you have shown.
