Dear Brehm and OPTIONS families,
I am writing to provide an update on the school's response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
As you may be aware, Governor Pritzker announced yesterday a state of an emergency decree for the State of Illinois. This measure is an "operational procedure," which allows the state, along with over a dozen other states, to secure federal government funding and establish more rapid measures to mitigate the impacts of the virus.
At this time, Brehm Prep and OPTIONS will continue with our current plans to resume programming following the spring break. In keeping with CDC recommendations, we have monitored travel and limited the potential for members of the community to return to campus from travel to high-risk areas. We continue to collaborate with officials and partners to review, update, and implement emergency operations plans. As a reminder, we ask families of any student or young adult who presents the symptoms of fever, cough, or shortness of breath to keep him or her home until cleared by a physician. All students and young adults will be screened upon return to campus by school staff, who will be in direct contact with families, should concerns arise.
Brehm and OPTIONS will waive absences for students or young adults who miss programming due to precautionary measures or illness. Please communicate directly with the administration regarding expectations for the provision and completion of academic work. As the situation develops, we are prepared to move to modified programming, including utilizing distance learning to the extent it is practical and limiting day to day activities that present an increased risk for virus transmission. We will take direction from county and state officials in regards to if and when school closure may be a necessity, just as we implement emergency procedures in the event of inclement weather.
We will continue to provide routine updates to families and staff. In the event that rapid communication is required, we will employ our emergency notification system. Do not hesitate to reach out if you wish to speak directly regarding the situation or have concerns or questions.
