GoldKey Education Pty (Ltd) is an English Program In Korea (EPIK) accredited agency since 2008

Teaching English in Korea

Private Schools, English Academies & English Villages
An estimated 60% - 70% of Korean school children attend private English language academies before or after regular school to improve their English abilities. These schools, known as "hagwons" like the public schools, hire graduates from the USA, UK, South Africa, Ireland, New Zealand, Canada and Australia with TEFL or bachelors + TEFL qualifications to provide intensive tutoring and teaching.

GoldKey Education works carefully with select partners in Korea to ensure secure placements with reputable employers in Korea to make certain that your teaching adventure is as happy and fulfilling as a public school placement.

HOW ARE THESE DIFFERENT FROM PUBLIC SCHOOL?
Private Schools teach all subjects, just like the public schools, but are private entities. Just like public schools they do hire Conversational English Teachers. As they do not require candidates for these posts have English schooling from Grade 7 to Grade 12 these positions are popular with candidates who attended French or Afrikaans schools from Grade 7 through Grade 12.

Hagwons typically present lessons before or after normal school hours so teaching at a typical English Academy usually involves a
"split-shift" work schedule where you teach either the morning shift or the afternoon/evening shift. This famously gives you late morning lie-ins or afternoons off to shop or explore.
By comparison teaching at a public school you are required to be at school for 8 hours a day 9am - 5pm regardless how many classes are on your schedule for the day.

A typical English Academy contract has you teaching 30 contact hours per week. Although this is more than the 22 contact hours in a public school week this is offset by the fact that you spend fewer hours per week on campus, your classes are tiny (see the video above) and your lesson plans and syllabus are all clearly worked out for you so lesson preparation time is substantially less than public schools where you have to scratch-design all your lesson plans.

English Villages are facilities that provide visiting children an "English Immersion" experience with the facility staffed by a large number of foreign English speakers so that it is the dominant language on campus. Benefits are competitive and teachers often live in staff quarters on campus.
The Private Academies that GoldKey Education work with are privately owned, very well resourced and well managed. We are very selective of the Academies we are willing to introduce you to as we want you to experience an enjoyable, fulfilling and problem free contract in Korea. You will be able to accept or decline each interview opportunity and GoldKey Education will provide you with support for the duration of your contract.
