USDA RURAL DEVELOPMENT
USDA Opens Application Portal for New ReConnect Rural Broadband Infrastructure Program
These funds will enable the federal government to partner with the private sector and rural communities to build modern broadband infrastructure in areas with insufficient internet service. Insufficient service is defined as connection speeds of less than 10 megabits per second download and 1 megabit per second upload. ReConnect funding applications can be submitted at reconnect.usda.gov.

USDA is making $600 million available in rural broadband projects, through $200 million in grants, $200 million in loan and grant combinations, and $200 million in low-interest loans. Application deadlines for each of these funding packages:
  • May 31, 2019, for projects seeking federal funds from the grants-only package;
  • June 21, 2019, for projects seeking a combination of federal loans and grants; and
  • July 12, 2019, for projects seeking low-interest federal loans.
For additional information about the ReConnect program in Colorado contact Randall Dinogan, randall.dinogan@usda.gov, (303) 514-6386 or Cindy Chadwick, cindy.chadwick@usda.gov, (720) 544-2924.

AREA DEVELOPMENT
Middle Market Investment Decisions: Layered government-supported incentive programs are key to making a middle market company's project feasible from a financial perspective.

Many large mega-deals have been in the news lately, wherein companies making investments in the billions of dollars have received incentives covering 20, 30 or even up to 40 percent of their project costs. For example, Foxconn’s $10 billion investment in Wisconsin is expected to create 13,000 jobs, and the company was awarded a $4 billion incentive package! Mega-deals such as the Foxconn project benefit from state tax credits, tax incremental financing, tax abatements, and often special legislation. READ MORE

TECHSTARS STARTUP WEEK - WEST SLOPE
The Western Slope of Colorado is coming together to host its first-ever Techstars Startup Week June 5- 8, 2019. It is a free, multi-day, “choose your own adventure” event for entrepreneurial minds, and a celebration of the #WestSlopeBestSlope way of doing business. Most Startup Weeks happen in one city, but Techstars Startup Week West Slope is a regional effort from Durango to Steamboat Springs. It is structured so that communities across the western slope can engage and ignite their local ecosystem, then all come together as a regional force. June 5 is West Slope Startup Week in your Hometown, when participating communities will host independent events to activate their locals. The communities will then come together in Grand Junction June 6-8.
