Prayer for Thanksgiving

For flowers that bloom about our feet, O God, we thank Thee.
For tender grass so fresh, so sweet, O God, we thank Thee.
For the song of bird and hum of bee, for all things fair we hear or see, O God in heaven, we thank Thee.
For blue of stream and blue of sky, O God, we thank Thee.
For pleasant shade of branches high, O God we thank Thee.
For fragrant air and cooling breeze, for beauty of the blooming trees, O God in heaven, we thank Thee.
For this new morning with its light, O God, we thank Thee.
For rest and shelter of the night, O God, we thank Thee.
For health and food, for love and friends, for everything thy goodness sends, O God in heaven, we thank Thee.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

From Father Chris

The annual Diocesan Convention took place this past weekend.  For the first time the business of the convention was conducted virtually via Zoom, causing it to be somewhat of a surreal experience for the participants.  Nevertheless I think this will be the wave of the future.  The keynote speaker was Dr. Catherine Meeks, Ph.D.  Dr. Meeks is the Founding Executive Director of the Absalom Jones Episcopal Center for Racial Healing.  She talked about ways to address racism in our communities. Her small group breakouts were particularly helpful to those of us who were new to this topic.  She recommended a book  "White Fragility" by Robin DiAngelo, which I will be ordering as a possible study book.
Despite the challenges we all face the Diocese remains strong  and vibrant under the leadership of Bishop Jose.

New program featuring the Saints starting the First Sunday in Advent, November 29th.

I will be offering a short weekly study of the Saints. The classes will start at 9:15 am and end at 10:00 am, before the Holy Eucharist service.  The class will examine the lives of the Saints and help us to see our own lives as part of the "Saints of God." There will be a short devotion, followed by discussion. Come join us for a lively examination of the Saints in ourselves.

Volunteers needed to serve as Members of the Vestry.

At the end of this year, Linda Sue Barnes and Janet Norman will be ending their 3 year terms as Vestry members.  Many thanks to them for being willing to serve!
We will need to fill these vacancies by the end of this year, to start in January 2021. Both of these are 3 year terms. The Vestry meets once a month, but their leadership is really important to the health of Holy Family. Qualification to serve on the vestry are as follows (per Diocesan Canons)

  • A  baptized and confirmed Episcopalian
  • A member of the parish for a year
  • You must make a pledge to your parish
  • Only one member from a household may serve
  • Vestry members are expected to attend all scheduled meetings. In recognition of work/business responsibilities, a Vestry member will be allowed 3 excused absences during a calendar year.

From our house to yours, we wish you all a very blessed Thanksgiving.  We give thanks each and every day for all of you.

Holiday Food items are the usual needs including cake mixes, canned pumpkin, pie crusts, canned fruit, potatoes, stuffing, canned hams, turkeys, canned green beans, mushroom soup, fried onions etc. They don't need any more medicine bottles.
