This is the first time in the 850-year history of the cathedral that a major photo exhibition is on display on the parvis, the main square in front of Notre Dame. My large scale photographs are displayed in two distinct sections:
• The first, The Cathedral After the Fire, features color images of the aftermath of the April 2019 fire and the beginning of the massive restoration.
• The second section, Echoes of the Past, displays my wet plate collodion photographs.
Using a 19th-century wooden camera and glass plates, I photographed the iconic statues of the Galerie des chimères and made portraits of workers, scientists and artisans engaged in the rebuilding. The images seek parallels with Notre Dame’s previous restoration during the 19th-century, lead by the architect Eugène-Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc.
The images are accompanied with beautiful graphics by Fernando Gomez Baptista.

The exhibition was produced by the public establishment responsible for the conservation and restoration of Notre Dame de Paris’s cathedral in partnership with National Geographic.
The exhibition is open to the public until through summer 2024.
