Clore Social Leadership has launched a free practical guide to board leadership in the social sector called Board leadership: A practical guide for the social sector. The move coincides with this year’s Trustees’ Week, an annual event taking place across the UK from 13 – 17 November that showcases the work of trustees, and highlights opportunities for people from all walks of life to get involved and make a difference.

The Honorary Treasurers Handbook – a new free resource for treasurers


The handbook offers essential advice, information and support for Charity Treasurers in all aspects of their role. There are many guides to charity finance but Treasurers need not only accounting knowledge but also the skill and competency to work well with others and to ensure that other trustees are enabled to fulfil their own responsibilities for finance. This handbook is particularly helpful with the ‘softer’ aspects of the role.

Wirral Playing Pitch Strategy Update


An updated strategy for playing pitches for football, cricket, rugby, hockey, bowling greens and tennis courts can be viewed on the Council’s website at http://www.wirral.gov.uk/planning-and-building/local-plans-and-planning-policy/local-plans/core-strategy-local-plan-6.  A copy of the updated strategy can also be viewed at public libraries and at the South Annexe of Wallasey Town Hall.  Further information can be obtained from forwardplanning@wirral.gov.uk or 0151 691 8110.

FSI launches fundraising qualification bursaries for small charities


The Foundation for Social Improvement (FSI) has launched a first round of bursaries towards its Introduction to Fundraising Practice qualification. Fifteen bursaries are currently available as part of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport’s (DCMS) Small Charity Fundraising Training programme, with small charities – with a turnover under £100,000 – able to access ...

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) will launch a dedicated advice line to help small organisations prepare for a new data protection law.


The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) will launch a dedicated advice line on Wednesday 1 November at 10 am to help small organisations prepare for a new data protection law. The phone service is aimed at people running small businesses or charities and recognises the particular problems they face getting ready for the new law, called the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
