Fifth Sunday after Pentecost
Acts 6:1-7

This Sunday, we continue our new sermon series entitled "Being Church" that will take us through the summer months. Throughout the series, we will look at the book of Acts, which recounts the story of the early church, to rediscover what it means to be the church. This Sunday we hear in Acts 6:1-7 how the early church selected people to serve in specific ways, and we consider our own callings to serve. We hope you'll join us Sunday at 10:30 am.

Making Disciples: Invite, Pray, Love

The United Methodist Church has adopted  Jesus’ Great Commission to "go and make disciples" as the focus of its mission statement. The very purpose of a church is to make disciples, yet we often have difficulty knowing what that means. I challenge us to invite someone, to pray for someone, and to love someone.

These, I think, can be expressions of what it looks like for us to make disciples. Invite someone you know to something that can help connect them to God or Christian community. It might be worship, our upcoming Game Night on May 25, a small group experience, a service project, or any number of other possibilities. Pray for someone who you know needs an extra measure of God’s grace. And don’t just pray once, but pray daily for this person and see what difference it makes. Finally, love someone. Show them extra kindness, compassion, and patience; serve them in an unexpected way; or simply pay attention to someone you might otherwise overlook.

Over the next month or so, let’s find ways to share about our “Invite, Pray, Love” experiences. I’m excited to see and hear how God will work through our willingness to make disciples.

Grace and peace,
John Hill

The Leadership Board had its inaugural annual retreat on April 30. As shared at the "Saying Grace" Potluck May 22, we developed five priorities for 2016 along with action steps under each priority.
If you can help with any of these priorities or action steps, please contact one of the point people for that area or any member of the Leadership Board.

Room 204   2 Hour Session
Facilitated by Gayle Lembcke,
Social Worker

Come join us, share, and feel unconditional love and support!

The Depression Support Group is rapidly growing!  Only 2 weeks ago 15 people attended--our biggest number yet!--and several of our regular attendees were not present.  Our sign is bringing in new community people every week as they recognize their need for support in difficult times.  The group has become too large to be effective for everyone to have time to share.  Gayle needs assistance and possibly someone to facilitate a second group.  If you are a good listener and comfortable with people expressing a variety of feelings, this is an opportunity for you to serve in a much needed Blakemore ministry.  Gayle is happy to answer any questions or discuss further your potential leadership.  Contact Gayle Lembcke at 615-646-8710 or 615-305-4974 or e-mail her at
