Matthew 9:9-13

This Sunday, March 11, will be the fourth Sunday in Lent - a forty day (excluding Sundays) season of repentance and preparation for Easter. Our series for the season is called "Good and Beautiful God" and is based on a book by James Bryan Smith. During the series, we will challenge some of the toxic and false messages we have received about God and be reminded that Jesus describes God in much more positive ways. Additionally, we'll be challenged each week to add some practices designed to draw us closer to God in our daily lives. Our topic this Sunday will be "God Is Love." We hope you'll join us for worship this Sunday at 10:30 am.

Remember, you can catch up on past sermons here.
This Sunday, we will also have an opportunity to celebrate the global outreach of the church as we collect funds for UMCOR. These relief funds help to provide assistance to areas of greatest need throughout the world. For more information about the projects and priorities of UMCOR, please visit

Our worship series for the month of April will be called “Resurrection Life.” We are looking for people to share stories of how they have found or experienced new life. Please contact Rev. John Hill if you have a story that you would be willing to share.

Spiritual Journey Conversations

Our Spiritual Journey Conversation (SJC) group engages every Sunday morning in open conversation about some of life’s deeper questions. Right now, we’re talking about our God-concepts – Where do we get our God-concepts?  How do we characterize our God?  Must we have a common understanding of God? In what ways do we fence God in – or out? Are we “theists,” “deists,” “non-theists,” “atheists,” “agnostics,” “pantheists,” “panentheists,” “monotheists,” “polytheists?” Do we know the difference? Does it matter? How does our God-concept influence our world view and our relationship to our world and its inhabitants?

Come, join us for stimulating, thought-provoking conversation. Sundays from 9:30-10:20 in the Library, across from Room 204.  A safe space for open conversation that doesn’t follow traditional teaching scripts and where each participant’s contribution to the conversation is honored.

Free Concert Hosted at Blakemore

Blakemore will host a free concert with Eric Moeller on March 10 at 7:00 pm in the Sanctuary. Eric is a pastor from St. Louis with a passion for social justice. His All-In Music Project uses music to inspire active solidarity with marginalized people, build community, and educate/mobilize for social transformation. All are welcome for this free show.

Every Thursday in Room 204 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM

People dealing with depression and anxiety are all individuals. There is no single cure: what helps one person is not the answer for others. In two years since the inception of this group, over 90 folks have sought us out, some for several sessions, some for a single session. This group has become known and highly recommended as a an empathetic, caring group by the medical field, other groups, and word of mouth.

Blakemore UMC opens it's doors every Thursday night to those that, for various reasons, are struggling to find their way. The day-to-day routines and issues weigh them down to a point of no functionality. Some find the most simple of task impossible because of their depression and anxiety. They come here looking for hope. Here, they find that hope. Here, they find persons who are dealing with a lot of the same issues they are. One of the most common being that of a reluctance to talk to friends and family of their problems or those same people not embracing the issues.

This is a group of persons that can open up to the degree they are comfortable: they can cry, yell, or laugh and not be judged. The facilitators can and do offer words of encouragement. One of the most rewarding results of this group is a community of support and encouragement: a light in a sometimes dark and lonely world. As persons in the group get to know each other they become friends and they realize they are not alone, that there are others that find it difficult to get through a day, just as they do.

We welcome all persons regardless of race, gender, culture, political views, religious views(or none) and sexual orientation. We take pride that Blakemore UMC is a reconciling community and reach out to all.
