Seventh Sunday after Pentecost

Psalm 84

Each week in July, we will hear a Psalm from the Old Testament that typifies a certain category (Thanksgiving, Lament, etc.). We will also have the opportunity to see how these themes fit within our own lives and how we might give expression to them. Additionally, you will be invited to write a short Psalm, and if you are willing to share, then we will compile some of what the congregation has written to create a Blakemore Psalm at the end of the month to be shared at the Saying Grace Potluck on July 29. This Sunday, we will look at Psalm 84, and Nate Partee will be preaching for us. We hope you'll join us this Sunday at 10:30 am for worship.

Remember, you can catch up on past sermons here.
Call for Volunteers

This summer, we are on the lookout for adult volunteers to help with Wonder Worship during part of worship each Sunday. We need both adults to lead the activity and a second adult to be an assistant. After the Children's message, kids ages 2-6 depart from the Sanctuary to the Wonder Worship room on the second floor of the education building. Stories and a kid-friendly worship service are set up to help kids interact with the worship elements and learn a special story about grace and our faith. If you or someone you know might be interested in this 30 minute commitment one Sunday this summer, please e-mail Pastor John or call the church office.
...is on Summer Break. We'll be back to our regularly scheduled programming August 1.

Please visit our website for more information for the Fall 2018 WNL Schedule.
Be sure to click "view entire message" at the bottom of the e-mail to see all of the wonderful things Blakemore has been up to!

Nine of our young people will be attending Cedar Crest Camp this summer. One of the traditions at camp is to receive mail from loved ones. If you would be interested in writing a short note of encouragement to one or more of our young people for them to receive during their time at camp, please contact Ashley Kemper for a list of campers and details of how to write them. Additionally, Blakemore is providing 50% scholarships for each of our young people to attend. If you are interested in contributing directly to this cause, please contact Rev. John Hill.

After our latest Chickenfoot Domino competition, a new champion was crowned. Carolette Forbess took home the Top Dog trophy! We’ll play again on July 15 at 2:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Where else could you go to have free, fun entertainment with lots of laughs, lasting no longer than 2 hours? No experience necessary. If interested, contact Cindy Kleinrock for more information.

The BeMORE small group will again meet on Tuesday nights at 7:00 p.m. at the home of Deanna McCulley.

We are studying a book called the Sermon on the Mount by Clarence Jordan. Clarence Jordan is the author of the Cotton Patch Gospels.

All are welcome to join us.

Spiritual Journey Conversations

Our Spiritual Journey Conversation (SJC) group engages every Sunday morning in open conversation about some of life’s deeper questions. Right now, we’re talking about our God-concepts – Where do we get our God-concepts?  How do we characterize our God?  Must we have a common understanding of God? In what ways do we fence God in – or out? Are we “theists,” “deists,” “non-theists,” “atheists,” “agnostics,” “pantheists,” “panentheists,” “monotheists,” “polytheists?” Do we know the difference? Does it matter? How does our God-concept influence our world view and our relationship to our world and its inhabitants?

Come, join us for stimulating, thought-provoking conversation. Sundays from 9:30-10:20 in the Library, across from Room 204.  A safe space for open conversation that doesn’t follow traditional teaching scripts and where each participant’s contribution to the conversation is honored.

For more information or to be added to our mailing list, contact Steve Tippens, 615-305-8316, sctippens@bellsouth.net.

Blakemore is providing dinner to the Nashville interns on July 16 at 6:00 p.m. at the Belmont Ministry Center, located at 2005 12th Avenue S.  Please see Sarah Cloud for more information on volunteering or to make a donation to cover part of the cost.

Community Care Fellowship (a daytime homeless shelter) is so appreciative of the many items that you give, like the toiletries from hotel visits. Right now they are in need of men's underwear and socks, size large and extra large.

Remember, there is a container marked for CCF in Fellowship Hall.

They are also in need of a volunteer for the 2nd and 4th Fridays from noon to 2 p.m. in the hygiene room. CCF is on 8th Street in East Nashville.

If you want to know more about this volunteer opportunity, please call or see Pat Pile.

Every Thursday in Room 204 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM

The Blakemore Depression Support Group offers a safe and supportive place for those who are suffering from depression and anxiety.  Many lack a support system where they can openly talk about what is deeply troubling them. This group is an informal setting where there is unconditional acceptance for all, no matter what their situation. Everything said in the group is confidential. The group meets every Thursday evening at Blakemore in Room 204 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.

For more info on the group, contact Gayle Lembcke at 615-305-4974 or lembckeg@bellsouth.net.
