Twenty-fourthSunday after Pentecost

Matthew 15:29-39

This Sunday, November 4, will be different than any we have had in the past at Blakemore UMC. For our inaugural Worship Without Walls, rather than a traditional worship service, we will go out into the community and do service for others. We'll gather in the Sanctuary at 10:30 for a very brief worship time of song and Holy Communion before we divide into four groups and serve our neighbors. All are welcome, so please invite your friends! We hope you'll join us this Sunday at 10:30 am for Worship Without Walls.

Remember, you can catch up on past sermons here.

This week ends Daylight Saving time - don't forget to change your clocks on Saturday so you're on time for Sunday!

Next Sunday will be a unique worship service for Blakemore. We will celebrate All Saints Day, Veterans Day, Worship Without Walls, Membership Sunday, and Stewardship Sunday. We will treat the entire service as a prayer of celebration highlighting each of these with a chance for the congregation to share and rejoice together. If you are interested in united with Blakemore UMC in church membership as part of the celebration, please contact Rev. John Hill.

Daughters of the American Revolution
Please join us at our next meeting, November 10, beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. We will meet Carole Webb Slater, author of Letters from the Heart.
General Conference Listening Sessions
The Council of Bishops has called a Special Session of the General Conference of The United Methodist Church to be held February 23-26, 2019 in St. Louis, Missouri. The purpose will be to receive and act on a report from the Commission on a Way Forward, which was appointed to examine our denomination's stance on human sexuality and explore options for unity in the church. The delegation from the Tennessee Conference will have 5 listening sessions for church members to share their views. The closest one to Blakemore is at Clark Memorial UMC (1014 14th Ave N) on November 4 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. For more information and other listening sessions, please visit the conference website.
Spiritual Journey Conversations

The Spiritual Journeys Conversation serves as a safe place to question, challenge, and pursue our own concept of who or what God is. While there will never be anyone to replace the open-minded, inquisitive leadership of Steve Tippens, we will move forward in his honor. All persons interested in a conversational class on the issues of the day are welcome to join us.

Come, join us for stimulating, thought-provoking conversation. Sundays from 9:30-10:20 a.m in the Library, across from Room 204.  A safe space for open conversation that doesn’t follow traditional teaching scripts and where each participant’s contribution to the conversation is honored.

See you there,
Joe T. Hensley-Templeton
Services for Steve Tippens
The service to celebrate the life of Steve Tippens will be in the Sanctuary of Blakemore UMC tomorrow, Saturday, November 3, at 2:00 pm.

A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. The family is hoping to put together a collection of notes, stories, and anecdotes about Steve. If you have one to share, please be sure to bring it with you on Saturday.
BeMORE Meeting Update

Please join us the Tuesday, November 6 beginning at 7:00 p.m. All are welcome.

The BeMORE Group is an open, inclusive, Reconciling small group that meets weekly to be present for one another, to engage in bible study, and to share life. This group meets at the home of Deanna McCulley and all are invited to join as frequently as they can. For more information, please contact Deanna McCulley by email or phone (615-604-1481)
Thank You!

At this time of the year, we are reminded to be thankful for those we love and appreciate and for things we are given.  Blakemore has been blessed with a great group of folks who willingly give of their time and efforts in managing our Church Office for a little over the last 3 years.  This service also saves money from our tight Church budget. Some volunteers work on a weekly basis, and others a few times a month, while others come in quick turn-around with cancellations, or as needed.  These folks meet the community representing Blakemore, as they answer phone calls and open the door for folks, answering questions from the poor and needy, as well as other various needs of folding bulletins, getting mail stamped and labeled to go out, and taking orders for Frozen Assets.

Please let the following Volunteers know that you appreciate their service and commitment to Blakemore. They are Rosanne Awbrey, Rene Bass, Patsye Candish, Mary Evelyn Cheshier, Doris Fawcett, Franky Haggenmacher, Joe Hensley-Templeton, Martha Hunt, John Jackson, Kathy Jackson, Leann Koerner, Bette Newman, Pat Pile, Pat Roberts, Patty Tippens, and Gayle Lembcke.

If anyone is interested in helping Blakemore as an Office Volunteer, please contact Gayle Lembcke at 615-646-8710.  The hours volunteered are Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 2 PM. We can ALWAYS use more Volunteers!

News from our Partners

Summer 2019 Intern Applications Open!

We believe that relationships can transform communities. Without relationships, neighbors are disconnected and communities are fractured.

At PT, young adults are part of the solution, bridging the gaps between communities and neighbors.

Our young adults are empowered through meaningful service and leadership, by leading summer day camps for children, living in intentional Christian community, learning from Christ-inspired leaders, exploring faith in action, and representing PT in the community. They work hard—really hard—as they love God and neighbor.

Calling All Performers!

Come celebrate the last WNL before Christmas with the Blakemore Chancel Choir for their festive and fun semi-annual fundraiser: BUMC Christmas Cabaret!

Please reach out to Matthew no later than November 18th if you're interested in performing in the cabaret!
Frozen Assets
Frozen what? Each year, cook teams assemble to prepare recipes that are time-tested and freezer approved. These finished dishes are then frozen to sell during the holidays, where folks can thaw and cook a full meal during some of the busiest weeks of the year.

Frozen Assets sells thousands of frozen entrees, side dishes, desserts, and breakfast items each year, and proceeds go to the missions and outreach of the church. More than a fundraiser, it is an opportunity for our church family to cook together, serve together, and share in a tradition that spans multiple generations.

Items still needed:
Gallon-sized Freezer Ziploc Bags

Cooks still needed:
Bread cook teams

Interested in joining a cook team or helping with these special requests?
Please contact Marge Rajotte at (615) 604-0084.

Thanks for all you do,
