THE 10TH BELLINGEN FINE MUSIC FESTIVAL OPENS 27TH SEPTEMBER

Children 12 and under free

Six very different ticketed concerts, including fine jazz (Wilson, Zwartz, Dewhurst, Stuart) and traditional Oud with Joseph Tawadros and brother James. As always, the Bellingen Youth Orchestra perform the opening concert along with the Acacia Quartet who will again perform compositions by local HSC Music students. David Helfgott performs on Saturday night and will be joined by Suzanne Sherrington and Lachlan Wilkins. Ensemble Q, Acacia Quartet and The Academy complete the classical music line up.

There’s a great fringe program including workshops with the Gumbaynggirr language Gunganbuwala Singers and with classical guitarist Karin Braidwood. Enjoy classical busking in the streets, more jazz with the Bellingen Big Band and performances by two recently formed chamber music ensembles, food and wine ... all in the wonderful atmosphere of beautiful Bellingen.  You can have a ‘tasting’ of one of the new ensembles, Waterfall Winds, on September 15th at Sunday Bites at the Nexus Community Gallery. Details below.

Two new developments this year are the combining of four local choirs for a grand Chorus of Choirs and a free concert in the Maam Gaduying (Meeting Place) Park on the Saturday afternoon to celebrate not only our 10th anniversary but also the wonderful achievements of ‘alumni’ of the Festival’s Music-by-Youth Project who have gone on to study music elsewhere.

Help raise funds for the Bellingen Youth Orchestra by coming along to the pre-concert supper smorgasbord from 6.00 pm on the Friday and Saturday evenings at the Senior Citizen’s Centre in Maam Gaduying (Meeting Place) Park opposite the Bellingen Memorial Hall. Enjoy chamber music in the park as well.

For full program details and to buy tickets for all Festival events go to the website bellingenmusicfestival.com.au, buy tickets at the Waterfall Way Visitors Centre in Bellingen, or during the Festival at the Bellingen Memorial Hall.

Concert tickets are selling really fast. Remember that children 12 and under are free. Fringe events are (mostly) entry by donation. Check the website for workshop registration details.

We welcome David back at our 10th anniversary.  He played at the very first festival.  David will perform Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition.  Lachlan and David will play the theme from Schindler's List.  Splendid pianist Alice Jamison will accompany both Suzanne and Lachlan in a range of other works.

Joseph Tawadros with James Tawadros

Sunday September 29th at 2.30 pm
Bellingen Memorial Hall
Presented by Bellingen Shire Council

Classically trained on the Oud, the king of Middle Eastern instruments, Tawadros’ virtuosity is widely proclaimed. He and his brother play with almost telepathic rapport. Aside from the music, they are also a very entertaining duo.

Julien Wilson, Jonathan Zwartz, Carl Dewhurst
and Hamish Stuart

Sunday September 29th at 6.00 pm
Bellingen Memorial Hall
Presented by Planet Lighting

Not to be missed. A stellar jazz combo and a wonderful conclusion to the 2019 Festival.
