Spring Fair Parent Information Evening

Wednesday 5th April

When: 7.30pm – 8.30pm
Where: Eucalyptus Building
Major Topic of Discussion: The Distribution of the Spring Fair Stalls in the CMS Community

My name is Alice Quade and along with Eleen Binutti we organised and executed the Spring Fair last year, which was held in Term 4. The Spring Fair is not only the major annual fundraising event at CMS, it is the coming together of the community.

As so much burden is placed on a few key community members, the Spring Fair management and delivery model is no longer sustainable.

The 2017 Spring Fair organisers are proposing some changes to the way the fair is organised, in particular the manner in which stalls are coordinated and operated. These changes are aimed at ensuring the fair is self-sustaining and aligned to the ‘many hands make light work’ principle.

We are proposing that:
  • Each class be allocated a spring fair stall – providing the parent community of the class with an opportunity to come together to organise and run a stall.
  • Each class will appoint a Class Spring Fair Stall Coordinator – the Class Spring Fair Coordinator would:
    • organise and manage parents of the class to prepare and operate the stall
    • assist the class parent community to identify and source stall requirements from the broader CMS community or external organisations.
Essentially what was originally the work of 1 or 2 people alone would become the synchronised effort of a class.

The Spring Fair Parent Information Meeting is an opportunity to contribute to this discussion and to identify new ideas for the Spring Fair moving forward, ensuring its continued success. New and existing community members with a desire and willingness to contribute to the progress of our school are welcome!

Topics for discussion include:
  • Background information
  • Current approach vs. proposed approach
  • New roles and responsibilities
  • Communications
  • Integration of the Canberra community and businesses
  • The future direction of the Spring Fair
Any questions or queries, please contact or

Kind Regards,

Alice and Eleen
