Health Officials Urge Masking, Boosters as COVID-19 Cases Surge in Hawaii

The Hawaii Department of Health is urging all eligible to get vaccinations and boosters as the number of new infections in Hawaii continues to surge.

On Wednesday the DOH reported the state's seven-­day average for new cases had climbed to 925—up from 722 on May 11, and marking the eighth consecutive weekly increase.

The state's average positivity rate, meanwhile, jumped to 16.9 %, up from 14.3 % last week. It was the ninth week in a row that the DOH has recorded an increase in the positivity rate. In Kauai County, now a high-risk community, the average positivity rate rose to 23 %.

Feds Offering Another Round of Free COVID Tests
Americans can once again order free COVID-19 tests from the federal government by visiting COVIDtests.gov. In this round, the U.S. Postal Service will deliver eight free rapid antigen tests to any household in the U.S. that wants them, according to the website. That brings to sixteen the total tests offered per household so far.

Hawaii Health Department says Keiki Ages 5-11 Now Eligible for COVID-19 Boosters

The Hawaii Department of Health today said it is adopting guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in recommending boosters for keiki ages 5 through 11.

DOH said children in this age group are encouraged to receive a COVID-19 booster shot five months after their initial Pfizer-BioNTech vaccination.
