Please Take Brief Survey on Lifting of Mask Mandate
Yesterday, Governor Ige announced the lifting of the mask mandate, March 25 at 11:59 p.m. As the final COVID restriction, this is welcome news after two years of monumental impacts on local businesses, jobs and families. 
 
While restrictions have been eliminated, COVID still exists. And while we are still in a fluid situation, it is welcome news that we can operate at a level of normalcy we haven’t seen in a long time. Mahalo to the businesses, their employees and the community for embracing personal responsibility and a collaborative spirit during these trying times.

Hawaii Sets a Date for Ending Mask Mandate, Becoming the Last State to do so

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii’s indoor mask mandate will be dropped at 11:59 p.m. on March 25 ― when the state’s emergency proclamation for COVID expires ― the governor announced Tuesday. But officials stressed that masks won’t be going away entirely.

The mandate was the last major COVID restriction with no end date and its expiration represents a major milestone in the state’s move to a new phase in the pandemic that seeks to “live with the virus.

U.S. to Extend Nationwide Mask Mandate on Public Transportation for Another Month

(WASHINGTON) Federal officials are extending the requirement for masks on planes and public transportation for one more month — through mid-April — while taking steps that could lead to lifting the rule.

The mask mandate was scheduled to expire March 18, but the Transportation Security Administration said today that it will extend the requirement through April 18.

TSA said the extra month will give the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention time to develop new, more targeted policies that will consider the number of cases of COVID-19 nationally and in local communities, and the risk of new variants.

Should Hawaii Legalize Alcohol To-go Orders?

HONOLULU (KHON2) — During the middle of the pandemic when restaurants, bars, and eateries were asked to close their doors and only offer take-out items alcohol to-go orders grew in popularity. 

Before the pandemic, many local authorities had banned bars and restaurants from selling liquor to-go with only a handful of exceptions.

How Will COVID End? Experts Look to Past Epidemics for Clues

NEW YORK (AP) — Two years into the COVID-19 pandemic, most of the world has seen a dramatic improvement in infections, hospitalizations and death rates in recent weeks, signaling the crisis appears to be winding down. But how will it end? Past epidemics may provide clues.

The ends of epidemics are not as thoroughly researched as their beginnings. But there are recurring themes that could offer lessons for the months ahead, said Erica Charters of the University of Oxford, who studies the issue.
